The usual Oil Leak problem - 182

  GTi

Hi all

Cleaning the 182 at the weekend and decided to take the engine cover off to check for oil..not surprisingly there is a small amount around one of the bolts. I am now going to book it in to get it fixed.

My question is will Reno kick up a fuss as I am getting a new exhaust fitted next Friday and I do not want them to say the warranty is void. Will the warrenty be void for the exhaust only or will they refuse to fix the oil leak as I have the new exhaust?

Thanks in advance

Technically it should only void the wrranty on the exhaust, but some dealers are a bit funny about this kind of thing.

Just be nice and polite and im sure theyll be ok with it.

Nah, mine has filter and exhaust(inc decat) and no problems with warranty.

Its going in on Tuesday to have the rocker cover removed and reseated with new gaskets etc.

yeh hopefully it will be covered as mine came to nearly 1k for the work:eek: (it was covered tho), as it was 2 days work

ps there is no gasket to replace, its just sealent that they squirt around it

  Shhh

So what do i look for then..? I took me engine cover off to take a peek inside at me brake fluid and i seen water over the engine. The car has not been used for 7days so suspect its stagnant water in the rain ducts.

Where does the oil come from, and seem to go. I noticed the brake resevior was rather dirty for such a protected position.

most of them do it, unless its real bad i suggest leave it
nope, ive left it 9 months time to be fixed

mine very slight hasnt got any worse, its staying how it is until it gets worse.

its a common fault on 99% of them! brake fluid resivior covered in oil is a distint sign!

its not just the rocker cover the leak is from around the cam cover!

Mine goes in on the 25th of july for oil leak and 2nd attmpt to align the engine mount then it will be 100% again!

oh as I understand it there is a gasket... they ordered one in for me!...

gasket for what ??, the oil leak, there is no gasket on the rocker cover, they seal the head with red sticky stuff, ps the rocker cover is the cam cover, do you mean the end plug ?

Bleh,

Whipped off the engine cover and mine is starting to do this. Its not bad, just looks like a little bit of oil up round the bolts. I mentioned it to my dad who said it was only a bit of oil and not really much of a concern unless it was to get a lot worse.

Leaking oil can never be a good thing.

I think ill wait until the first service and get it done then.
