Thermostat not where it supposed to be?

  PB 172 phase 2
Hey noob here, I had a 1.2 clio before and I changed the thermostat on that easy enough, replace plastic housing with thermostat inside=job done! I thought id put a new one in this 172 ph2. having no manual I thought it would be in same place....? I undid the housing on the passenger side of the block where the plastic one was on 1.2 and after 10 different size screws it came off but no thermostat? Just oil in it and a gasket, I then screwed it up again(Not sure if every screw is in right place?) I found thermostat further down the pipe, not sure what way round thermostat goes in pipe? have I caused any damage by unscrewing that housing and putting it back on again??? please any help/info would be very much appreciated.

Not having a manual for them is like having a blind firing squad!?

Love my car, don't wanna break it :-(

You only need to undo the three bolts for the top hose if I remember correctly and the thermostat falls out of there.

Just make sure you seal the housing up properly, there is a proper gasket for it.
