Thinking about a Trophy

  Track 172 Cup
can't get on the eBay add as eBay is blocked in work and I'm on nights lol plus my data ran out on my phone 2 days ago luckily it renews on the 3rd haha.

  Track 172 Cup
am probably going to end up running round like a loon most of tomorrow, got to try and get a gearbox casing machined and get it all built up with a dog gear set and hopefully back in the car so could be a fun one!!

afik apart from the bodies it's standard? drives well though and is a decent straight one.

No worries mate I'm not in a rush anyway I'm off Tuesday and Wednesday too so if you get a minute just drop me a text. Might give Chi a buzz and see what he's got lying about anyway lol so if I'm passing I may drop in.

I don't get it, yes they had cool seats and shocks but you can build a better car for the price difference.

Perhaps it's the colour? I don't like red.

I agree im affraid
I don't see all the hype with the trophy personally

Its an awful colour
They gave it no more power than standard 182
Seats and suspension upgrade don't warrant twice the price of a stunning FF 182, the recaro' aren't the nicest recaro's out there either!

Just not special enough over a normal 182 for me hence why I went for a ff 182

Without being biased I'd stick with an immaculate 182 ff or add a couple thousand to your trophy fund and buy something super cool like a mk1 focus Rs (loved mine, regret selling it)

  Track 172 Cup
Yeah a trophy wasn't the be all and end all I just thought if I could get a decent one for OK money I would but if not a mint 182 FF would suffice and would tinker with that. I do like the capsicum red and the idea it SHOULD hold better value not interested in making money on it just nice not too lose a lot haha. Spent the afternoon looking for nice 182 FF's in LY, RB or BG I did see a nice Inferno but didn't look great inside.

Mine is titanium silver which I do quite like especially with the anthracite wheels on there but do wish I could have found a decent black gold example as think they look stunning when clean condition

Not fussed on any of the other colours especially the yellow :fearscream:

From a monetary perspective I say buy the best Trophy you can afford. Yes you can potentially get a better Clio Sport for your money and do what you wish with it but the Trophy will always have the exclusivity.

I am in two minds with what to do with my Clio with Trophies the way they are at the moment but I suspect I shall keep my 172 and mod it. However, you almost never get your money back modifying a car. Originality and demand go hand in hand especially in the long term.

  Track 172 Cup
Yeah totally agree if I got a trophy I would want a good one and standard. 182 FF would want mint as poss but wouldn't mind modding it a little as I have my 172 cup for anything serious.

My problem is I either take far to long to decide what I want or if I'm out and see something I impulse buy lol.

Anyone know what DTM cars are like? Seem to have a few nice clio's advertised when I've been browsing and they have a 1 owner Trophy in, granted it's on 120k miles and I was looking for low miles lol, BUT what's to look for or would need replacing on a Clio with that many miles Just had Timing and Aux Belts, Dephaser, Service all done by DTM themselves ready for sale (apparently it has been looked after by Rentec and Mark Fish if that's worth anything). I think the fact it's 1 owner got my interest as I would assume its been looked after with someone keeping a car that long.

@bloke what do you think on a high miler like this? Due to price I could spend some getting stuff replaced (bushes, mounts and etc) http://www.autotrader.co.uk/classified/advert/201506184436368?model=clio&radius=1500&keywords=Trophy&sort=default&make=renault&postcode=wa80pb&onesearchad=used,nearlynew,new&page=1&search-target=usedcars&logcode=p

DTM have sold a few Trophies over the last 12 months, they usually get them up to scratch, that one has had the belts & dephaser done as you say. Fair few miles / time since the Sachs were done so this may be holding some people back. Don't know about the washer blanks as @dablk spotted?

Rentech are a very well regarded RS specialist in Portsmouth. Mark Fish is a very well regarded RS specialist in Harlow; he's a bit of a suspension guru. Having these specialists on the service history bodes well for the care that has been lavished.

I bought mine on 108k & I've refreshed the whole of the suspension and it's made a big difference. Bushes etc deteriorate with time as well.

As well as the front Sachs dampers that cost 10x that of the std dampers (without getting technical, they are much better & you'd have to spend north of £1000 for a comparable set-up if you went down the modded non-Trophy route), the gorgeous / comfortable / adjustable / 10mm lower supportive Recaros (second-hand ones still change hands for around £800), a Trophy also has anthracite Turinis, the V6 spoiler, and is an overall package that is recognised as a limited-run special and widely considered the best hot hatch ever (esp if you read evo!); they're also proving to be appreciating... I am, of course, biased and a well looked after non-Trophy 182 is still going to be loads of fun!

TBH I'd love to own a Trophy but for a daily I do like having whatever extras I can, like the Xenon lights and Climate control/automatic lights and wipers. Coming from an E36 Coupe to the Clio was a nice step even if the BMW had climate control. I have been spoiled over the years I know!

My weekend warrior is raw enough for now, with no interior etc.

  Clio trophy
bought mine from eBay in March of this year for £2800 without the Sachs but have since fitted a set, since buying the prices seem to have climbed on a monthly bases probably due to a few magazine articles proclaiming them to be the next big useable classic,if you are thinking about it I wouldn't leave it too long.mine has been great fun and a fantastic hot hatch

I had one for 18 months and would rank it bottom of the 4 Clios I ve owned and my williams2 top. The colour no matter how many times machined, prepped and a £230 wax never really shined, the recaros were mega uncomfortable, and the cost maintaining the suspension is obscene. Vastly over priced for what they are.

That is quite surprising and the first time I have heard that.

If you do not mind going into detail how do all of the 4 Clios compare to each other?

£230 for a wax!!..

It was most likely detailed with sealers etc. in an attempt to keep the paint looking good for a bit longer than a few months.

The williams2 95M I had was great fun to drive, quite nippy and a great engine it was just a rust box that's all, great shame I sold it 3 year ago for £1400 and it was in nice condition than some that are going for 3k, then I had a 04 182 one owner from new that was a solid car never had to spend much on that in a few year, that felt a lot tighter then the Clio Williams, bought the trophy on a 05, I should never have bought it and the job I do should have known better, it was very tired for its age, didn't feel as nice, tight fun to drive as the 182, lots of dash warning lights, sensor issues, poor dull paint, moved away from clios for a bit had two boxter s 51,05 then a TT black edition convertible 62 and just bought this 172 which I love, really really nice condition full history and I ve spent £1000 in a month doing bits and brining it upto A1 condition, just waiting for a snappy wheel to come back and were nearly there. Sorry for the long reply I just love cars!!

I would have thought with the Sachs dampers it would have felt better than a 182?... warning lights, sensor issues, that's just a Renault!!

It's this reply for why I am tempted to stick with my 172. It is a very solid and clean car :).
