personally i think it's alot of money for a car that isnt far superior to a 182 i would wait till it's cheaper then get 1 thats what im doing, or get another car? 15k can buy a quality used car

When I first drove a 182, I was impressed and promised myself to get one.
This was not the case when I drove the 197.

cheers its going to be a hard one. Will have to keep thinking or evan go for a meggy think i need to get to a garage and start to test drive them all drove the 197 about 6 months ago and did like it will need another go i think there is lots of opinions on this car

I'm waiting for the Cup version, nearly bought a 197 R27 - but decided to save the extra money to change rather than get a loan. The Cup pack on the R27 makes the car feel a lot more responsive than the standard 197.

197 all the way I'd say, I'm not disapointed with mine in the slightest infact my mates have started taking the p155 out of me because of how much I like the car, although they like it as well just not as much as me. I think it feels slower than it actualy is and believe me there isn't much that beats even a standard 197 on handling that's why I've only been on a motorway once in it lol.

After owning a 182, the 97 didn't really do it for me. Personally, I'd go for the R26, it's more of a step up imo.

drive the vehicles you are considering.

do not pay any attention to people on here for opnions as all opnions are vastly biased anyway.

Ultimately it is you who has to live with it and pay for it. Make the decison based on your thoughts and not from the cs massiv imo.

I loved the 197 i drove. In red, best colour ;) I also in the one i drove, renault still leaved their trademak poorly fitting govebox lid mind!!!!

Depends what you want ? Do you want a fun comfy day to day hot hatch ? If so there are loads of turbocharged products out there. However if you want to repeat your hardhore hot hatch experience there is only one way to go : R26.

The 197 is a also ran in the land of the hot hatches I'm sad to say.

Cheers think the best thing to do is test drive them all r27 aswell and see what i think

Matt, we traded in our '05 182 with cup packs for a 197 R27 and I think it is a better car all round. We have had it for well over a month now and I love it. The handling is fantastic - almost zero body roll and just feels more grown up than the 182. OK, so it's not as quick in a straight line, but that is more than made up for by the fact there is more room in the car and the "fun factor" is just as good :D

i would love one, especially an r27, looks have grown on me so much and they are really good cars.

however for similar money i would probably get the megane because of tuning etc, just simpler.

however in my real world i would probably stick with your car, £15-£17k on a car is a lot of money, unless you can comfortably afford it why not keep the 182?

yeah, i know, keep the 182 and buy me a 172 cup, then we're both happy...one more than the other!!

Definitely! That's what I'm going to do. I want something noticibly faster than my 182..and something as quick as an Astra VXR without buying a Vauxhall.

By the way, simpledeal is a real good price for a PCP. Ive had a quote for a 197 from a lease company I use and they beat it by up to 8 quid a month, doesn't sound a lot but having the 197 will push my insurance up a bit and this will compensate. I love the Clio, driven a 182 and it's so good but have a feeling the 197 is just more modern, new, better made, bigger, more solid and dare I say it, safer. I owned an MX5, great open top fun, but on a motorway i was so low down I didn't feel safe- safety is a big priority now. 197 definitely for me. When there are more about, the 182 etc will look

When there are more about, the 182 etc will look dated. Even the Megane is due an upgrade. And it's bigger. 197 defo! In black or Albi blue or Nimbus. Silver and black are my options at the mo, they're rare!

  cock mobile.
I'd say do it!

If you want a more refined car, and I'd test drive the Meg as well, seeing as there is bugger all real difference in price anyway.

Me and the missus were at motorpoint last night lookin at one, but they only supply poverty spec models, no HID no climate control ect, coming from a 172 with all the toys to a basic 197 is not on, so were going to the stealers tomorow to get shafted, any tips?
