thinking of selling the vee..but where do i go from here??

Its gonna break my heart to see it go if I sell it...and I know i'll miss the experience...fun..and attention it brings... but its just becoming too expensive to keep the thing running with spiraling petrol prices... Its not that I cant afford to do it...more the fact that I must be getting old and starting to grudge putting petrol in a car so often..

I just dont know weather I could bear starting a clattery diesel every day...although 45+ MPG does sound tempting...

thinking maybe going to a trophy...or maybe an R27 197..and sticking the change in the bank...

opinions...any other cars i could consider??

Don't most people seem to be getting 25-28mpg with the 197? Not that much better than the vee.

Shame to sell mate but if you dont like buying so much petrol then dont get a 197 as they arent exactly brilliant on fuel economy. I barely get 25 MPG after doing 3500k in it so far. Im hoping it gets better otherwise i might have to look at selling and if i change my job after christmas ill be travelling a lot more.

Unfortunately mate its not the way to go if you want good fuel consumption. lol. They are a good laugh to drive and funny to leave BMW's and other big fat man saloons behind. lol.

used to be my thoughts exactly, but I had a blue 56 reg one following me last night and it has so much road presence. Obviously no on the same level as the vee, but still a very nice and very capable car all the same! Saying that you would save much getting one, a few extra mpg and you can pay 17-19k for a second hand R26 which is the same price bracket for vee. How about a mk4 R32??

That's shocking, shows what weight is doing to cars these days. I could get 40mpg from my Cup without trying and not exactly taking it easy, and 46mpg on a long run down to the coast without a problem.

Megane DCi sounds like a good option, 0-60 doesn't sound amazing but I hear they pull very nicely once going (i.e. real world) there won't be many (if any) new cars that will return very good MPG and be suitably rapid.

james...im gonna miss the whole experience of it though

i could go and buy an evo which would wipe the floor with the v6..but...it would be japanese..and dull..and theres about 97689494 on the roads :S anything else i could afford and want would mean id be in the same boat in fuel consumption..i.e TVR T350, etc...lol

i think i need a drive in a R27 clio, cause..i do love my renaults for some reason

Around town i don't think it's much worse on fuel that my old 172! Basically because you can drive slowly and let everyone admire it!
