Thinking of taking the upgrade

  e92 + E46 M3 + Cup
Hi all, been a 1.2 clio owner for a year & a half now & really have had enough of not being able to just put my foot down & go!

So looks like 172 time is coming close as i have cash to spend ;) ,

So firstly what do you reckon my current clio is worth, heres a pic & the spec -

DSC00313.jpg

Currently on 80,600 miles & this is off the top of my head but do have reciepts to show all work carried out

Cambelt & all aux belts at 76,000
3 new wheels bearings at 75,000
New clutch at 70,000

Spent loads getting it how i wanted with cup seats, ph2 rear lights & spoiler, ph2 alloys etc & 35mm springs.. have spent loads with things like colour coding which i know i'll never see again ££ wise but would of thought it would still be worth £1,800 - £2,000 what do you reckon bare in mind it will have 10 months tax & 12 months mot when i sell it.

So onto the a 172 should i go with the ff or the cup

Favor the cup because - Cup spoiler, alloys, love the blue colour

Favor the ff - cheaper on insurance, xenon's, cruise control, half leather seats etc...

So what would you guys suggest? also whats the mpg like on a 172 when staying below sort of 3,000rpm? where does the engine sit at 70mph rpm wise?

Also what do you reckon insurance would be - 21 held a licence since end 2006 have 1 years now claims & i'm currently half way into my current?

Thanks,
James

If you love the monidal blue that the cup normally comes in then that's what I'd go for.

cruising at 70mph your looking at mpg in the 40's.

Was thinking that auto trader, just people like to see bog standard, do you reckon things like cup seats will put people off?

This will be your killer.

You have not held your license for very long.
1yrs NCB only.

On average, 21yr old with 3/4yrs NCB are gettign insurance for around £1500 (give or take)

Im assuming urs would be close to the £2k if not over.

Worth getting quotes before you decide on a car i guess.

Cups are nice if you can find any that are left hehe :)

Originals gone, off to the skip they went :dead: ... arm broke in the drivers seat & coludn't be moved forward.. so £55 to fix old tat seats or £70 for full front & back seats from a stripped out 2004 plate cup

Damm thats gonna be gay... gonna have to look into that tomorrow

You will make more money by putting it back to standard and selling the other parts on. However, you have done a very nice job of that and it looks incredibly oem so I was just advertise it as is, it doesn't look modified, the un-educated won't notice it and most people will appreciate it.
I assume the cup seats are dynamique seats?
Can't go wrong with autotrader and pistonheads.

Yes mate the plain cup seats, luckily the door cards are a dark blue so they do look oem, that was my aim with it, if i couldn't get a 172 i might as well get it looking smart for the mean while... its just like tonight, i was out with my mate & any time he wanted to go he could where as i'm sitting there hoping there are no hills round the corner :dapprove:

Not for me it wasnt
I got my 182 insured for under 800quid when i was 21 and only had 2 yrs no claims - Greenlight insurance

though im from a decent area, that may be a major factor

  Ph-Sold!
I wouldn't put it on eBay, could get a silly low price. Pistonheads and Autotrader would be good, don't mention the lights, alloys, spoiler or colour coding but mention the 'sports' seats and 'professionally' lowered and it won't scare too many people off!

Theres no point in mulling over what your going to get MPG wise mate, if you drive it everywhere below 300rpm then theres a good chance itll stay above 35-37, drive it for what it was built for then it will sit at 31-32.

If you want good fuel economy dont buy it, thats not what its for! I bought it cause it goes fast round corners and out performs other more expensive cars!

my insurance is with greenlight. At the time of taking the policy out i had been driving 3 yrs, 21 years old, 1years ncb, live in a decent area. £957 for the year fully comp with £350 excess...which is lower than on my 1.2 clio.

The fact that it has half decent economy when driven normally is a definite bonus though. Most people cant/don't want to rag around it all the time.

Absolutley mate couldnt agree more but if its fuel economy your worried about then its no Focus Diesel is it?

Dont worry it will be getting what its used for in the evenings & weekends  .. just for those trips to work where i'm happy with doing 70mph thats all as some half decent mpg would be a bonus, if i rag it every where i dont think fuel will be the prob more likely the old plod :dapprove:

Cheers for you input guys, been looking at getting my self one in the next 6-8 weeks
