Thoughts on the exhaust manifold

I should be picking up a 172 that will be a trackday project in the next week or so and have been looking a various parts etc.

Back when I had my last 172, one of the decent upgrades was to fit an exhaust manifold from a 182. Is this still thought of as a worth while upgrade? One reason I was thinking it would be was not just power but easier access to the cat for mot time.

Anyway whilst looking on ebay for 182 manifolds I saw this. Brand new 4-2-1 for £200.

Any thoughts?? My initial thoughts are it seems a little too cheap but I'm open minded.

ebay item is cheap and nasty. Don't bother

Swapping to the 182 manifold makes a difference to the midrange, but the work involved makes it touch and go whether it's worth it. I did mine becuase the engine was out. I wouldn't have bothered otherwise. The 172 manifold is still pretty damn good

I did try searches but dint see anything.

Yeah I thought it looked too cheap. Like I said the main reason was more about swapping cats at mot. You may correct me on this but getting to the cat on a 172 is a pain.

yes changing a 172 cat is a pain. I'd leave it in all the time personally

Is it worth getting a decat pipe or is it just a ball ache come mot time? I need to do the cat to manifold gasket on 172cup a didn't know wether it's worth putting a decat on at same time?

you'll have to take it off again for the MOT, so if it's that much of a hassle, enjoy doing that every year
