Throttle pedal thingy

No sure what section to put this in but while cleaning the tracks on my throttle pedal I took apart the mechanism. There is a sprung piece that causes the extra 'click' you get at full throttle which got me wondering what the purpose is of this? Answers

It's the switch that over rides the speed limiter.

Or kick down switch in an auto
 
Ah of course! Although the clicky bit is in no way electrically connected it allows the contacts to move off the tracks onto the limiter tracks. I was thinking about it in the wrong way
