Ticking noise when clutch depressed

  172 MKII FF
Hi,

I've noticed this in the past but just noticed it again when putting the car in the garage.

When I press the clutch there is a ticking noise, it seems to be louder when I depress the clutch.

Any ideas?

I have been told it could be the carbon cannister? I think there is a problem with this too as a ticking noise disappears once I readh 2500 revs but can't be sure the clicking noise is the same when I press the clutch.

Pressing the clutch shouldnt effect the carbon canister. It could be a worn clutch release bearing, but they normally make a noise when the clutch is not engaged.

How can I check this? Are they easy enough to replace or is it a garage job? Any idea what will happen if i just leave it? It's already been like that for a while.
