timing belt fitting!!

hey guys anyone from aberdeen area on here able to do it or help me to fit a new timing belt? as £450 is robbery if not i will attempt myself

agree. 450 is good. GDI and other top peps do it for around that. My reno dealer said 700. (got it done for 470 in the end at a good indi))

agree. i'm not expert but think the bumber etc have to come off.( basicly way over my standard) its also the norm to do the aux and water pump at the same time. but if you can do it go for it. if i was more skilled i'd prob have had a go.

awel i will just have to get it done then but i also need a new clutch so at least i can do that myself(biting point almost at the roof)

No, but as Fred has said, you'll need the Renault locking tools, £100, and then to actually know what you're doing. You will want to fit a new Aux belt at the same time, and possibly a water pump depending on the condition.

I have the tools, you can borrow them for £20 plus postage costs. PM me if interested. Total cost of parts is around £170. 2 renault cam plugs, timing belt and tensioners plus aux. belt.

air filter, battery, ecu, starter motor, driveshafts all come off first tho so it's actually worse than fred says! lol

yes but you also have to lock the crank, the cams, and the cam pulleys

none of the pulleys are mechanically joined to the crank or cams, they're tapered fit and held in place purley by friction

if you're a nats bollock out you'll stuff up the timing

does the subframe need to come down, can the box not be dragged to one side enough to get your hand in there?
last one i did like that was a citreon relay van,, my 1.2 needs a clutch soon but if its subframe down fooked if im doing that on my day off il be taking it to mr clutch :lolup:

Just done my cambelt+tensioners, aux belt+tensioners+spring and water pump this weekend. Not too difficult just lack of space. The locking tools are pretty cheap compared to the other parts and it was well worth the saving over a main dealer. Get the copy of the 172 manual which is kicking around the web as it make things alot easier. You only need the crank locking tool and cam locking tool as your not adjusting the timing just stopping things moving.
