I was driving home from work last night and my car cut out on me! without realising why it had cut out, i tried re-starting it, found out today my timing belt had snapped, had a mate to have a quick look under the bonnet, apparently its bent 10 valves! not sure what other damage its caused! sooo gutted and pissed off!! any idea's on how much it would cost to repair? is it worth getting it repaired? any help would be appriciated. Thanks

  Whichever has fuel
New lump from a scrapper: £150

Paying a mate to fit it: £150

Servicing the new engine before it goes in: £150

Cambelts:..... Priceless.

what was the mileage and age of the car?

its also down to the way it has been driving in its life. get a 2nd hand engine and use the parts, wont cost you much on a 1.4

I didn't actually mean openin the bonnet lol, he's a mechanic n he's had the head off, but he hasn't stripped it right down if ya get me , he's got a quote for me off renault, £1500 mark! He reckons he can do it for me alot cheaper than that. not sure wether to spend that much cash on it, would say its worth keepin the car? just had the headlights fixed on it costing me stupid money being xenon lights! Dont really wanna be spending s**t loads more on it !

could possiblily be a very cheap fix, less than £200

say you get a good 2nd hand head, with everything for less than £100, new belts £50 (i think from gmf) give your mate couple of quid for fitting.

looks bright aye!

When my head blew, it cost me 200 all in, however i had already replaced the engine as the big ends went, so the head was changed rather than an engine change.

I did the head in my driveway in the pouring rain with help from my mate.

The head is a cheap fix, but the engine drop could be worth it.

I'm not too sure how much damage there actually is at the mo, been told that 10 valves have bent, not heard nothing since coz i've been in work late, should find out 2mz or thurs, shall see what to do soon :(

  Ph1 track 172
valves are like £5 each lol
new head kit wit stem seals about 40
new water pump (might as well) 40
new cam belt 40
new head bolts £2 each
get ur mate to give u a hand,
bish bash bosh,
assuming its only bent the valves, can do LOTS of damage,
mine went at 76K
only bent 4 valves,
me n ma m8 fixed it for 180 (includin drink tax of the garage owner who got the parts really cheap)
and neither of us are mechanics

You will never be sure about the bottem end after the valves have bounced off the pistons, I've known people spend hundreds on fixing the head & a couple of weeks later the bottom end fails. Not worth the risk buy a complete engine out of a write off.
