2003 Clio 172
Right-o,
So I bit the bullet and got the whole she-bang done at a reputable place here.
This included:
Cambelt + tensioners
Aux belt + tensioners
Water pump + Renault coolant
Dephaser
New cam pulley seals
New crank bolt
So I think it was the full package. Anyway....terrible engine clatter and tapping now gone.....super happy with that.
But I now have an idle that I would say is quite a bit lumpier, hard to describe. Still idles at around 1k RPM (Henk map) but its almost like how a drag racer engine idles, blurt...blurt....blurt....blurt. Fella advised that the timing was indeed out (from Renault :/) but, maybe this is just in my head....but I thought it was smoother before.....almost sure of that......anyway. I pulled the caps tonight and stripped down a bit to check.
I locked the crank with an allen key making sure it was in the locking hole rather than the gimpy recess on the crank.
Bear in mind, I dont have the locking tools, just my eye and a ruler.......buuuuuut, I think (and I hope I am wrong) that the timing is out on the inlet cam. I will be really disappointed if so as I was really hoping this was my super-duper-go-to-garage. Looking at it for ages......I just dont see how a cam lock tool would slide into this easily?
Would appreciate it if you could share your thoughts?
*yes, I know its hard to see but I guess if you are familiar with this engine, it might be obvious.
Cheers
J
