Tinted Winscreen

Im pretty jinxed with my cars.....had loadsa problems with my ZR160, so changed to Clio172 53 reg ( 2nd hand ) where other people have given me problems with the car. I had the car a week, when I was overtaking and a 3rd party didnt check their mirrors properly and decided to overtake as I was passing them!! There were only scuffs, but I was without my car for a quite a long time due to waiting for wheels to be repaired/replaced, wing respray had been done quickly. 2 months later Im still waiting for their insurers to decide if they were liable!! A week after getting the car back, I went out one morning to find the windscreen cracked, wiper blades bent and small scratches. Some planks a builder had left on our flat roof had blown off during the night and done the damage. Ive claimed against his insurance. Problem is, that since the new windscreen was put in, Ive noticed that it seems different to the other windows. It doesnt seem as dark. Is that normal for a 53 reg 172? I know there was legislation around that time that a certain amount of light had to be let in from the windscreen so that could be the reason why, or is there a variety of tints available for my car and Autoglass may have put in the wrong kind??

the windscreen has never been allowed to be tinted. i think your getting conofused with the legislation that states only a certain amount of light can be blocked out from the front two windows. And now infact the front two windows shouldnt be tinted at all. You will notice the windows to be darker as they have a slight factory tint to them. This is not a problem. Does your new windscreen have the purpley kind of appearence when you look at it from certain angles. you will need to make sure as they may have replaced it with a screen that isnt uv resistant. I dont think you will have a visible small square in the middle of the bottom opf the screen where the uv is not blocked on a non uv blocking screen.

But to answer your question no the windscreen is not and should not be tinted

Windscreen isnt tintied, to might be thinking of the UV reflective coating on the screen. Do you have a small square at the base of the screen dead centre?

When i had my windscreen replaced in the 172 the RAC used a UV protective windscreen but it had a green tint instead of purple. It still had the small square in the bottom of the screen though. I thought theyd put the wrong one in but they said its manufactured by themselves and not renault so its slightly different. Autoglass manufacture their own windows too so maybe thats why?

Just wondering, could you clarify why there is a small square at the bottom of the clio windscreen, my 182 has it but my dynamiques dont ?

the sall screen is for the use of gps recieving equipment. The small area will allow signal through however signal wont come through or not very well through the rest of the screen. This is because it has a coating/ i smade to resists uv. The dynamique wouldnt have a uv resistant windscreen and so you wouldnt have the small square

My sisters dynamiques got it (53), so must be an age thing.

Its something to do with the french toll system, they have a barcode that is put in that space, without it the readers cant see through the screen. It doesnt matter that much in the UK, in fact it would be a benifit if you use a radar detector

Ok thanks for that, I think in my previous cars, the tinted windows ( factory fitted ) have all seemed the same colour and when I needed a new windscreen for my Almera Gti, Autoglass actually asked me what colour tint was on the car so they could match up .

All other windows seem to have a greeny blue tint, whereas the windscreen is lighter, but has more of a faint brown tint if anything and yes it has got the small window at the base of the screen.

I actually went to have a star crack repaired at Autoglass and asked them about this. I was told that no, the windscreen hadnt been replaced with the green tinted windows like the rest of the car, but an antiglare/UV reflective type screen that is much more expensive. As thats the case, I can put up with the fact it doesnt match the other windows!
