To those who dis the Ecotek CB26P

I dont see what the big fuss is about, If you think the stupid thing works, go ahead and buy one (why listen to people who have used it before and dis it?). Im sure there are plenty of 2nd hand Ecoteks around... got rid of mine on ebay!

It does work in my experience.

However, I dont think its worth what youd pay for it.

BTW if anyone wants one, Ive got a chromed one, with matching chrome silencer.

Well if I average a 10 percent saving in fuel, tend to get less than 360 with it off and nearer 400 with it on, then that pays for itself and more over a year. As to effect on performance, nothing to record other than smoother feeling acceleration.

I think its worth it.

This is just silly now, and reading back, I feel like a tw*t. As cliosportshk says.... we are all entitled to an opinion... and what IS all the fuss about. Sorry if I have upset anyone.

I too (Matty) think it is worth it. It has certainly paid for itself a few times over with me. And I will be putting one on the Cup eventually.

I fitted 1 on my MX5 and noticed it felt smoother under acceleration.
Not sure it made any difference to fuel econ tho.
Shant bother with 1 on the cup...it should be Efficient
enough.

Scary actually...

I drove mine to Santa Pod, was not hanging about, over 200 miles each way and I got 41mpg!

Another thing about the Ecotek, it doesnt affect the actual brakes but does affect engine braking, its is felt mostly on manual cars as you down shift or let your foot off the acclerator (espically in high revs) and takes a bit of getting used to! The car doesnt slow down and feels like it dashes out if you know what I mean... Personally, I rather have more control than to save a few cents on fuel, if you are worried about the fuel efficience better get a push bike!!!

  Mk2 172

I think the Ecotec CB-26p is great. Had one on my 1.4rt8v, got one on my 172.

I can tell when it is off, because the car doesnt feel as good, it wont accellerate as quickly, and fuel consumption is crap.

With it on, my 172 is more responsive, I get 4 or 5 more mpg, top end is quicker to get to (100+), and it runs smoother. Had mine on for 12k miles now. It lost the shlurp after about 100miles.

It doesnt affect breaking, and the "runoff" (AKA "Engine Breaking") is also smoother.

It can also be installed without cutting your breather/vacuum pipe. Just pull the pipe from the manifold and put another peice of pipe between that and the ecotec.

IanC, put one on your CUP.

lol, if it is not making a slurp then its not working as it should, which also means that its just sitting in your engine doing nothing because the valve is closed... as for better accelleration and "smoother engine braking", well Ill like to see you prove that against a 172 without a ecotek!!! bottom line its a waste of money!

works for me get about 5-10 more mpg (mpg counter on 172), save me tones of fuel!!! not much difference to performance other than a bit firmer.
