Tom tom one or garmin??

Garmin every time.
They're not cheap, but the Nuvi 6**'s are brilliant. We have Tomtoms in the cars at work, bog standard really, they usually get you going in the right way, but the features are a little on the lacking side. Then again, spend £400 on a Tomtom and you'll probably get some nifty tricks.
I was just impressed with the Garmin 670.
Built in maps for Europe and USA, SD card for other maps should you drive to Asia... You can also load MP3s onto it and broadcast them in FM to your radio.
Has speed camera alerts as per usual, bluetooth for phone calls (can also call most of the POI's on there).
Just an example of it's brilliance was on a long motorway journey. Feeling a bit peckish.
So click Find Food,
It asks if you want fast food, indian, chinese, american etc etc etc.
Tap fast food, it lists the usual Burger King, Maccy Ds etc etc.
Tap Burger King, you can divert your current route via the place, phone them through bluetooth.
Planning on buying one when I get rid of my current phone (it has GPS already so not much point buying another for the sake of it).

Was going to say I have the 720 and it does all of the above (including phoning POI's). One of the things I like is the reading out of text messages which I find handy, and of course you get the map updates from other users with it as well.

Yup I would've guessed as much. I just found everything about the Garmin to be nicer than I've experienced with Tomtom.
It had a max speed on the trip details too, never seen that on a navigation device before (though you'll probably say it's on the TT too

How are garmins better, what do they do thats so special?

the only difference is in th apammping, generally Garmins mapping is better, but now tom tom and garmin use the same mappin provider, so the new tts and garmisn will me much the same.
i have a garmin i3, an old model but it still works great, only has 3 buttons on /off, back and a wee scroller thing, only cost me like £70, and you could get them recently for as little as £80 new with european mapping and speed camera pois are easy to get pocketgpsworld.com is great only £19.00 a year, for unlimited downloads of the database so between 3 users(me dad and bro) its only £6,35 each, but they have been discontinued in favour of the nuivi, which are a fair bit pricer, twice as dear, but, only as expenive as the base tom tom one, which i got my dad for chrimbo and it had no problems getting a GPS signal any where, middle of halford, in the kitchen etc.
might get a more up todate one in the new year.

Hard to say tbh. On paper they seem to have very similar features, the Garmin just feels a lot nicer to use.
for anyone that has used both for a day or so, you wouldnt need to ask why garmins are better, you would know
the maps are sharper, the writing is larger and a lot sharper, the colour choice on screen is better, the menu system is a lot more user friendly, etc etc
ask ANY retailer that sells both, id say most if not all will say Garmins are better, ask which they own themselves
like i said i spent 4 years selling the things, no commision or anything like that, ive used Garmin, Tom Tom, RAC, Navman, Blue Media/Destinator, PDA's running Co Pilot

i used to LOVE selling Garmins to people, i knew for certain they would never come back with any problems, even old people can use em their so easy
exchanged SO many other brands of sat nav to a Garmin because people werent happy with other brands, but would they listen at point of sale, nooo lol, they wanted to save £20 and buy the cheapo one

When i was looking they were heavily plugging the road angel, but reviews said they were crap.
I looked at the TT one but it crashed in the middle of halfords and the salemen told me they had a good few back.
I went with the Garmin mainly because its a brand im familiar with they have been around far longer than Tomtom and make some quality products. Their customer service is second to none, literally they exchange it for a new one or fix it there and then, none of this send it off b****cks that im having with Nokia. A collegue took his marine gps to their headquarters in romsey and they fixed it there and then.When I was working in the marine industry all the boats we sold were fitted with Garmin.
Well worth the additional outlay over any other product.

I have a Navman ( can't remember which model off the top of my head ) very happy with, the wife has a TomTom one free from work , and it's rubbish! it's just too slow , you have already driven past the st/road you need too turn down ( driving at speed limit , not caining it ) before it tell's you on the screen!
Not tride Garmain , but the Navman ( samish price ) is better then TomTom one!

They are selling it for £150, as opposed to the usual £300.
The navman F20 i use is very similar and i have no complaints with it. The only feature i'd like it to have is an "avoid road" feature that i know the TTs (and propably the Garmins) have.

So Garmin is edging it at present.
Don't need top range model as only use occasionally.
Upto £150 /200 is what im looking at.
Speedcams pre loaded would be good, pos europe........spa/ring next year
Navman are also quite good.
I got my Nuvi 300 for Christmas last year and that was around £200 maybe just over, so you should have no problem finding one. What I did was to go to Halfords and have a play around with it, check I liked the functionality and compared it to the other models, then ordered it off Amazon for substantially less

Garmin. Just got one of these. Speed cams included (can be updated reg from pocketgpsworld.com). Full european maps, and the cradle and power supply are seperate (which i prefer because I can get the power wired into the car, and not leave a cradle on show when I leave the car). Dirt cheap, £115 (£160-180 on high st)
