too much oil after oil change

  307 hdi (powered by derv)
I did my oil change yesterday which as I was pouring I realised I had gone to far. The car is mk2 172 which i understand takes 4.9l with oil filter. I have put 5.2l in. will this do any harm or am i better draining some out?

I have dip sticked the car a it is reading over by about 5mm.

Can anyone help?

Did the same thing and Reno listed it as URGENT in the 25 point safety inspection, apparently overfilling is a bad as having hardly any oil at all. Check what the right amount is and if needs be defo drain some out

Too much is as bad as not enough in the fact it will damage seals etc to force its way out.

That quantity will be fine. If you put 6L in then yes you could have a problem, but 200ml over the top if fk all. Pouring oil is not an exact science, and unfortunately gauging the oil on a 172/182 is a b**ch as the dipstick is as useless as the electronic display is, and for that reason theres a safety buffer. You'll burn that 200ml off in 200 miles anyway.

In short, don't listen too much to what everybody tells you, just watch what your doing next time.
