you might need to rey re-installing the audio drivers, that can happen in XP if the power is removed to the unit, it was off when you opened it right? and you didnt use anything metallic did you?

open it again and make sure very thgin is straight and no corroded solder. remember to earth your self when you take the sid eof grab the metal chasis with both hand for a few secods to discharge your static.

if that fails get an audio card for £10-(skys the limit) and install it in the pci port.

^ good point really, but lets try and help him now that the 'damage' is done ;)

Jaff87, I know XP is bad, but i've never heard it loosing the audio drivers just because it was unplugged.

Boot the computer, right click My Computer select properties and click the hardware tab then click device manager, your soundcard should be listed under the sound, video and game controllers tree. Expand the tree and make sure there are no yellow or red warnings on any of the devices.

Sorry to sound simplistic...have you checked the cabled connection to the speakers? Could the cable (normally green if the speakers are for a PC) have come away from the output (socket)???
