Top Mounts

  CLIO 182
Hello,

So I shall soon be replacing the suspension, OEM Shocks, Eibach springs but I have heard there is common problems with the top mounts and solid ones are much better. So whilst it is all going ahead I may as well do it at the same time. But I am struggling to see why there is such a price difference in these three?

Also does it really make that much of a difference?

Solid top mounts are known to fix several "knocking" issues and generally tighten up the front end, improving steering feel and response. Of those three options you linked to, avoid the cheapest Compbrakes as the top nut is known to loosen over time. Apparantly the newer design is improved, and those AST ones get a good rep on these forums. I've personally just bought the K-tec mounts (http://www.k-tecracing.com/show_product.asp?id=2847&appid=2) which are also well spoken for.

I also bought the k-tec ones but i'd go for the ast ones right now for the adjustments they offer

So basically, they offer no real advantage and my money would be better spent on say a rear ARB? (If I can get a hold of one that is).

Cheers guys. Does anyone know if there in stock anywhere? I know there was a shortage a while back

the real advantage is that they won't alter suspension geometry while cornering and are pretty much bullet proof. But yes, a rear ARB will make make a noticeable change in the car's behaviour. I'd still get the top mounts at some point. A good allround suspension setup isn't complete without them, just my opinion

Solid mounts FTW indeed :)

I had no bother with my Combrake ones though and they were on another 172 before I had them
