Top strut mount.

Does the top mount wear and what are the symptoms if it is worn?

I replaced my dampers and when I looked at the top mounts although not in very good condition I thought that they were not that important as they only contact with the bearing and that surface seemed ok. Im probabley totally wrong though.

the rubber doughnut can perish, and replacing them does tighten things up.

Knocks and rattles are symptoms

Ben have you got any idea of a price on the doughnut rubber mount? (C57M)

And what about the top cup mount that bolts to the shock from the engine bay does this need replacing?

Thanks mate.

im not onthe correct OS at the moment so i will have to tell you later on, but i dont think they will be too much.

Andyspares (German, Swedish, French) do them for £8.00 each - part number R45714.

I dont know about the top cup mount, I need new ones of these and I think that you can only get them from Renault. Ill post tomorrow if I get a chance to go to my local dealer.

James as you know the price I presume you replaced them, what was your car like to drive before doing them? ie. did you just get a noise or did it affect the steering?

I havent got around to it yet. It was just that I got a lot of stuff for my car which has now been fitted.

If I can get the problem with my steering sorted out tomorrow (see topic on Polysport bushes) I will be fitting them on sunday along with Koni suspension.

I will post a message as soon as I have fitted them.

I dont have any noises, the steering may be affected as I presume that the ones on the car at the moment are the originals and have done 80 odd thousand miles.

I would have though that they will make a difference.

If you do fit these it would also be worth fitting new suspension bearings too, these are only £6 each from the same place as the bushes - part number R45712.

When you do fit the new bushes and steering, dont forget to new nuts to the bolts that secure the base of the strut, as I believe that these are nyloc nuts and shouldnt be re-used.

Ive already replaced most of the front suspension (including the bearings) except these doughnut bushes, which hopfully are causing my steering problems.

Ill look out to see how yours is after replacing them.

Yer they do effect your handling by a fair ammount!!

They are about £25 each side for a complete kit !!

Yes once fitted you will notice a sharper handling on corners and all round better driving expierence.

I was very shocked by how much replacing just one made to my handling !!

I just ordered them so I hope it makes as much of a difference on mine. I just want it to cure the wondering problem I have had for ages. People have metioned that the camber might be out and said it cant be adjusted but if the top mounts are worn this will affect the camber wouldnt it? So thats my theory on why it should work.
