TOYO 888s

hmmm lot of guessing going on here.
I bought a new set of t1-r's about 2 1/2 years ago and they were good road tyres but not up to much on track ,tyre walls too soft so i outed them and tried 888's and they are all ive run for the last 2 years , they are in another league in every condition apart from deep standing water and my car weighs less than a clio 172 cup so light weight is no issue.
In normal driving conditions they arent even comparable with t1-r's.
Ive driven combe 3 times in heavy rain with 888's and everytime been quicker than all similar cars with road tyres whatever brand they were running .In damp and average wet conditions they are miles ahead of road tyres .Plenty of people use them on road with no problems at all .
Downsides are they are very noisy ,take away ride quality and the wear rate.

Does make me laugh when folks spend heaps modding their cars only to put average rubber on the car and thus losing masses of the performance theyve been shelling out to gain, tyres are everything ,get the best you can .
I would sooner have 888's than an extra 40 bhp.

Do they do different compounds of these?

Im guessing theat would affect their cold/damp/wet weather performance, would it not?

  RIP cup, now 172ph1
i picked up my R888s lastnight.. i wont be running them on the road only for trackdays but put them on tonight just to see what there like.... all i can say is :D think i might leave them on for a few days just to get used to them;)

i use 888s all day everyday on my car, dnt have a problem in wet weather atall, excelent in the dry, better that a normal road tyre in the wet, tho hit standing water and ull probably aquaplane but in the clio ud have that on most tyres. no where near as bad as alot of people think in the wet, loads of people when they see i run them say "there shite in the wet" always ask if theyve used them not one has said yes lol. drive to a track with good sticky tyres, pull a few laps with better tyres than the lot running road tyres and drive home again sweet as you like. i run the gg (medium) compound and for the curent rate of 62 ish pounds a corner i dnt know why lots more dont use them. my 2 pence worth :D

the Lotus Yokos are also a different (and unique) compound to the equivalents that you can buy off the shelf.

my (limited) experience of moulded semi slick track tyres has been that they're OK in the damp but 'not so good' when it's really wet. also, they're much less progressive than a good road tyre and, if you're using them primarily on road, you might find that they're more of a handful (not least of all because there's no way you'll get them up to their working temp on the road)

ed. that last point was a bit sweeping - better to say that you'd struggle to maintain the temperature in them (without driving like a bell along a very twisty road)
