Track tyres



  megane 265/clio 182
As above used for weekends and then on track. Thinking of toto t1rs or parada spec 2s these any good?

As above. T1-R's don't last at all. Parada Spec 2's wear really quickly on the front wheels and the grip in wet conditions is scary. Try the new Toyo R888-R's. Or ADO48's. I've gone away from using track biased tyres this time and using Michelin Pilot Sport3's. Not been on track with them yet as only recently fitted them. Paid £254 for four tyres from ATS including lifetime insurance on the tyres so if I get a puncture or wreck a tyre it's replaced free. Fed up of buying tyres that don't last. Will see how the Michelins hold up

Those 888s are expensive.

I run 888s on my Clio which is used on track and which the wife also drives to work. Can't fault them apart from the noise.

Federal 595 RSR mate as imprezaworks says, there similar to the AD08 but loads cheaper.. no point in going for a semi slick type tyre if your still going to be using it on the road. The RSR will be plenty good enough for what you want

Watch out for tyres de laminating if you use Federal 595's. I had two on mine and they both fell apart across the tread. They appear to make the tread in sections and bond them together. If they get hot the joints start separating.

I have used R888's. Great Tyre.
Just bought a set of RSR's for the 197.

However... I am really curious about using Rally slicks. I don't think they will yield as much grip as an R888, however, they will be more durable (if the right compound), they are cheap as chips and they can be cut for the wet really easily.
 
OK, having spent ages looking on here and pistonheads forum,

I've order new toyo r1r (pair) and Nankang NS-2R (pair) 195 50 15

Also got some nearly new
Yokohama AD08R (pair)
and
Dunlop Formula R Do1J (pair)
coming soon, but in 195 55 15 - Is this going to be too much of a problem on standard rims on my 172?

The best all rounder I have used are the AD08 and AD08R, R888 and DZ03G are great ,even better when they are cheap .At the moment using Silverstone FTZ Type RR Tarmac Tyre ..reason being I got two sets dirt cheap... great when you get them warm(stick like s**t when they are hot) .....dam right dangerous when they are not............don't even think about going out in them when it is wet or cold its like driving on slicks in the ice .

Sadly wasn't the tyres that let me down,

It was the lump of crank that flew through the bottom end!

Genuine question..... anyone got a decent 172 engine for sale? Ideally near Surrey?

The NS2-Rs on my RST are superb. They are not massively noisy either. In some ways I prefer them to the Toyo R888s ; I managed to overheat a set on my old 205 GTi around the 'ring GT track ; they were lovely until that point, but Christ the grip would not come back until ages later ; I understand that the Dunlops are alot better in this respect.

As for the above being lethal in the wet I can only speak for the R888s and the NS2Rs. The R888s I found pretty good in the wet TBH, but then the car did have Carat ditchfinders on it beforehand! Standing water however did make them a complete cropper, which made waterlogged motorways interesting. The NS-2Rs were a massive improvement over the Toyo T1-Ss I removed in terms of wet weather grip ; I would literally wheelspin at the lights with the Toyos upon bringing up the clutch (before anyone says anything, try driving a car with a Helix 4-paddle clutch ; horrible is not the word).

That is a rotten bit of luck with the engine mind you! Is the said friend putting something towards the engine?

Yes my mate and I share the track car, so we are looking at a couple of engines, other than eBay any places to look?

In the for sale section and put an add up int he wanted section. Although you may have too sign up to a full membership, only about a tenner for the year but if you save more than that looking for an engine it'll habe paid for itself.
