Been looking to get a set of wheels to use on track with track tyres, is 7.5-7.8kg wihout tyres an ok weight, not sure what 2118's weight but is it more or less the same?

cheers

Surely it makes a difference? Especially in a wheel, any weight gets multiplied due to it rotating? So braking and acceleration are both affected.

Think mine weigh in at 6.5 kilo each

Well think the ones im looking at and 2118 are much lighter than the standard 182 cup wheels, saving a little weight though!

Trust me you will no notice a difference.

Going from 16 to 15 it's mainly the cheaper tyres that everyone does it for!

So you save a few grams here & there but the driver tops the scales at 15 stone, really going to make a difference.

If your going for the 2118 get the Palmersport version as they are heavy duty as used by the cliocup cars.

Not saying it'll make a massive noticeable difference (what weight saving mod generally does), but it's def the best starting point

Its worth doing as when your moving rotational mass for each wheel comes into effect, so if your saving 4kg for instance by using lighter wheels it will reduce the equivalent mass of your car by more (probably more like 6kg),

Its been faaar too long since I did moment of inertia stuff at uni so don’t quote me

Plus lighter wheels are easier to start moving and stop so will help with accelerating and braking

Pro race 1.2 16" are around 7-7.5kg, 15" are around 6-6.5kg iirc. 2118s, turinis, standards are all 2-3kg heavier for 16s. Oz ultras/supers and a couple of rotas are around 5-5.5kg for 15s.

If your going to buy a new set of wheels then imo buy a set of OZ Ultralegges in 15". They are suppose to be 4.9kg a wheel so your saving quite a few kg over your standard 182 wheels.

If you just want some 15" wheels for track then get the ones which are the cheepest and get a set of R888's or A048's

Buy some used wheels as they will get abused.
Spend your money on brake pads, tyres & tuition;)

Are the 2118 not lighter than the cup 182 wheels? Im changing form 16's to 15's, tyres being one of the reasons!

Is 7.2 to 7.5 an ok weight for a wheel for me to use on track and daily?

As Steve says, don't bother about the weight of the wheels, you are on track to enjoy yourself, not to race. Take a seat out and you've saved 10kilos. and spend the wheel money.

Get cheap wheels so you dont care if you buckle one.. and spend the rest on lots of proper track tyres ;-)

my 16" ultraleggeras are about 5.5kg each. standard 182 wheels are about 9kg each. i did notice a difference, the main one was how much cooler my brakes kept! google unsprung weight. it does make a difference.

2118's are not light but they are strong and 15" so cheaper rubber.

I get a noticeable difference in steering using my Superleggeras (4.9kg) over the Williams wheels (7.3kg+), all I can put it down to is the weight as they are both the same width. Although, the tyre you use is the killer...

9.7kg for an R888 - Normal tyres are quite a bit lighter from the ones Ive had...

If ther are r under or around 4kg a wheel (no tyre) u willnotice a better turn in and slightly better accel and braking.

PSJ.
