Tracker - worth it?

Da

Car  Less
I know the V6 boys will have Trackers, but what about any others on here?

What's the best system out there and cost wise what we looking at?

Are there any noticeable discounts for insurance if they don't stipulate that one must be fitted?

Comments and experiences welcomed :)

I have Navtrak on my F.

Very clever system and better than any tracker

I wouldn't bother on a 182. Its only a £5K car, they arn't stolen very often anyway. A Vee, Evo, Scooby, Ferrari.... Yes but wouldn't think it was worth it on a 182.

This ^

If the car isn't mental spec or 15/20k+ retail I wouldn't really concider it.

Adz - Thanks, NavTrak looks like a good system just struggling to find any prices anywhere.

Brett - It isn't for the 182.

Lol, yes Jamie ;) Tracker overload!

I considered it when I was getting a motorbike new 2 years ago (halifax is the 2nd worst place in the UK for motorbike thefts you know) but it made no difference to the insurance.

Cant remember costs but it simply wasn't worth it, if I had something worth a lot and rare then I'd get one.

Speak to me about it ;)

AutoTxt

I can put you in touch with our sales team and sort you out a good discount!

We are line fit on all Aston's, Jags (Jaguarwatch), Landrover.
I can pass you more details, fire me a PM !

I can't understand why it wouldn't make a difference to the insurance :S

Suppose it's relative to the value of the vehicle.

*edit* Has - will PM you now!

I tried an insurance quote with a tracker fitted, went up nearly £200 over a std alarm/immobiliser.

Suppose so, the bike I was looking at was around £7k so not a huge value, with bikes though I have found that security (trackers/alarms/chains) doesn't seem to make a difference if it's in a locked garage.

Personally unless my insurance stipulated I had to have one I wouldn't bother.

However another vote for the Cobra NavTrak, my folks have one on thier 911.

Had it fitted at their home just after buying it as it didn't have one, cost about £300 I think and is the one approved by Porsche for various reasons.

Then on top you have to pay the subscription etc.

Yeah I was having a good nosey at the NavTrak last night.

What are the subscriptions like, do you know?

Has put me in touch with a good company who are quite local to me. Plus my local car/audio dealer are Tracker installation specialists which is handy.

Had one on an old car, renewal cost more each year than the discount on the insurance (less than a tenner). BUT.... more chance of getting the car back obviously!

Yeah the installation costs are widely publicised, the subscription costs however seem somewhat of a secret.

I'll ask my step dad how much he pays tomorrow.

I know he had 2 choices, either pay yearly or pay for a 'lifetime' (as long as you own the car) sub.

Most cars that have had them fitted or already have them installed from factory are usually because they are uninsurable for theft without them and therefore have to have them fitted to comply with their own insurance companies requirements, eg:- evos, M cars, imprezas, ferraris etc.
I fit cobra trackers and TRACKER themselves where i work.
Yes they are a good idea because it covers u and helps if ur car is stolen.
It will bring ur insurance down but its wether u can justify the cost for one and if u actually feel u need one :)

Yeah guess I really need to speak to my insurance to see if it's an option even worth considering.
Just figured that given my location (NW) we seem to be punished up here for insurance and this is something I'd do to help reduce my premiums.

Thanks Chris, that'd be great if you don't mind :)

Had a tracker on my 172 (previous owner got it) but it was £60 to register it in my name AND my premiums went up a couple hundred quid... Just left it as is, not worth it.

Right the sub for him was either £130 a year or £400ish (can't remember exact figure, £417 rings a bell though) for a 'as long as you own it' sub.
