Trackers

Im looking at getting a tracker system fitted cause all the little twockers round ere would just love to go cruising in the car ill be getting, anyone here had one fitted, and more importantly has has anyone had their car nicked and recovered because of it.

Just really looking for a system that people reccomend, 400 quid would probably be my budget, just dont want something that the police have to be about 35cm away from to detect or a system thats foiled by parking inside or somat daft like that. Hopefully a removeable steering wheel will also deter the little gits aswell :D

The problem with Trackers is.. they only useful once the car has gone..

I put a CAT1 Clifford on mine.. should hopefully stop it moving in the first place..

Correct.

... but if I only had £400 to spend, I would get a CAT1 first.. THEN get a Tracker.. I wouldnt get a Tracker on its own and nothing else.

Trackers are great.. and Ive thought about getting one.. but only now I have a CAT1..

the little sh*ts carry steering wheels and drills now. One tw*t run a screwdriver down the side of my door after putting the window through and I nearly caught the little sh*ts (they didnt realise it was alarmed) Cost my £140 to put it right!

Tracking will bring down the cost of your insurance though and will probably pay for itself with the lower premiums but dont you have to pay a monthly service charge?

Thanks for your input so far :D

Insurance is main concern as Im 20 with no NCB yet, but the main reason Id prefer a tracker first is that no one round here takes notice of car alarms anymore, its same with the neighbours house alarm, it goes off so much that when they do get broke into no ones gonna give a stuff :p

That bit about being towed away is too true round here aswell, my Cousin came up from London on his Ducati, dunno much about bikes but it was 1000cc or so and expensive, took me and my brother out for a ride and someone mustve seen where he parked it and came back during the night, broke into the garage and loaded it onto a pickup. Stupid thing was a neighbour saw it all happen but the numpty thought the guys with the pickup were the owners and were just moving it, didnt occur to him that you dont take your motorbike to the garage at midnight on the back of a pickup....

PS tracker isnt for my current car, theyre not gonna want my 1.2 Clio :p

I was thinking of getting the phone thing module for my Clifford.. the one where it rings ya mobile if the alarm goes off..

Dunno how much it is.. but it would be useful methinks.

my old dear has a traker on her SLK. there was a fault with it so it didnt disarm properly. whenver she got in the car within 3 mins of driving it she had a call on her mobile informing her the car was being moved. seems to be quite good to me.

as for monthly charge, i know you can pay monthly or yearly (not sure which one) but you also have the option of paying a flat fee (think its £200) and that will keep it active for as long as you have the car.

The one that TRACKER do is 325.00 inc VAT for the duration of ownership subscription or the annual subscription is £109.00 inc VAT per year. That subscription applies for all three of the products they sell - Retrieve, Monitor, Horizon.

I think that they are a good idea!

Monitor is the best.. they ring ya to tell ya its moved.. rather than you waiting until you find its stolen THEN you notifying them.. then they sort it out.

My mate has a tracker on his Impreza. Last year he had an accident and the car was taken away on a trailer. No call from Tracker.

So he phoned them and said "my cars been stolen". They said "Really?", to which he replied "no, but for all you know it could have done, its currently on the back of a low loader and the keys arent with it". lol

He got some of his subscription back I think.

Get yourself a gearbox deadlock bolt fitted.

When my mate bought his Impreza he had one fitted. Its inserted from the passenger footwell when the car is in reverse, and locks the gearbox dead. It has a very odd looking key to unlock it. Im not sure if they can be fitted to all cars, but they are very very effective.
