tripod experiment/night shots

Well i got a tripod for an xmas present and wanted to try it out so me and D-mason went for a few night pictures too see how they turned out. I was also changing settings on my camera dont know much about it except its a 10.1 mega pixel lol. so heres how some of them turned out all comments welcome guys and gals...

Bit Blurryness maybe the wind although did have a tripod!

then came the snow...

then me and the wife went and took theese after i got my xennons fitted theese pics arent tpp good quality...

All i can say is sorry for so many pictures,any advice/photography tips are welcome and that i love my xennons

Good start ! There's some crackers there, with a bit of PS tweaking

Two things I learnt from shooting at night ..

1: Shoot RAW (if you can) and get them looking natural (without the yellow/orange glow) within a few seconds on PhotoShop.

2: Use the timer - 2 seconds is enough .. it stops any camera wobble from releasing the shutter!

One of my best photos was ruined by shake:

I can't find the best WB setting for night ! Custom WB is too much hassle most of the time, esp. with long exposures..

What do you recommend ?

Dont have photoshop :dapprove:, so just set a timer for 2 seconds roughly and it should be better?

How did you get that shot fella?

I live about ten minutes from Greenwich and always go near the Canary Wharf/O2 Arena to take some shots... but I can never find a spot where its empty as there is always someone looking at me dodgy or too many cars even at 2am.

I tend to use a 2second timer, and leave the shutter open for as long as needed:

And the results you can get leaving the shutter open for longer

re: the white balance, you should be able to select Custom White Balance off the menus. It'll ask you to accept the current or, on my camera, select a new white balance by taking a picture of the light you want to come out white - best bet is to take an A4 sheet of white paper and then set the WB using that by filling the whole screen with it then setting the shutter off.

Or, failing that, just point it at the streetlights and set the WB off them direct!

Auto WB does seem to do quite well in most situations though
