no....... you really didn't have 172, sorry lol.

Your probably lookin at +7 to 10 at the fly on whatever you had originally

Superchip quote 10 bhp gain, so 1 hp fpr Viper?
It doesnt really work like that. you may up the bhp and torque at certain rpm, but overal bhp may only go up by a few .

It's all about the graph, that will show bhp and torque all through the rev range, I would want more power from low down in revs, than having more top end.

Go to a reputable RR guy who isnt wanting to take your money to do work on your car, someone completely neutral.

Because of the remap I do get a kick in the pants earlier than other 172's I have driven.

Very few standard 172's i've seen RR'd have made more than 166bhp at the fly. A viper won't get you much in the way of bhp. Niether will an exhaust. The super chips map if its a good one and matched to your modifications might release a bit. I think your looking at between 172-175bhp.

errr....

I'm not looking for an argument, I understand that I didn't have 172 bhp to begin with, I am truly interested if you have RR figures for a 172 2001 plate.

It beggers belief that you can spend nigh on a grand and get maybe 9-10bhp gain

Staggering, for the money.

Interesting that I have had many races(!) with Civic type R's and none of them can pull away from me, I don't catch them but they don't leave me behind.

Does that mean there 197 is nonsense?

eh im having a laugh mate.

Unfortunately, spending a grand aint gonna get you a great deal. Half of that could go on an exhaust alone... and not actually gain anything. Same goes with a new intake kit... not gonna get all that much of a gain. A remap WILL on the other hand help, but very much dependant on the old clio b****cks of unmatched manifolds.

Again... you're not going to see much more than a peak of about 10bhp on that

Mate... i have a STANDARD 172cup... and have never lost to a type-r yet. I tend not to think about it like that.

Well the 172 in PS so not bhp. In reality it should be 168bhp. The 197 will probally be around 188-193 at a guess. Never know it may actualyy have 197.

But that's probably down to your driving ability!!!!
Your Cup will be quicker than mine though

What's your fav, for noise and power (if any) but not loss of power?

if you've got your exhaust done.... leave the std airbox on (reno don't spend millions in R&D to screw you over), and buy a decat

This is getting worse, lol

Why does anyone pay £250 for a Viper?
Because there the best value induction kits you can buy as tested by BenR some time ago (he didn't make any money so was impartial)

My guess is 180hp or so depends how good your engine is.

  ph1 172
does anybody have a before and after RR for a viper?

To me they look like they dont have enough volume for the flow of the engine

Go for:

Panel Filter in standard Airbox, many recomend the ITG
Matched Inlet, most recomend Angelworks
De-cat

That coupled with your exhaust and chip should, on a great day see you go from 169 BHP (Standard) to about 184 BHP

Viper wont give you any real bhp gain, exhaust wont give you an real gain, and neither will the super chip, hence i said maybe 5bhp between them

  172cup
dunno. I've always liked K&N over anyone else, but thats just me.

Again, i don't think there is much power advantage TBH

DOnt bother with induction kits, waste of money imo. Go with a decent panel filter, inlet manifold matching and you should see a decent gain, oh and a decat. For remap get a custom remap not an off the shelf chip like superchips.

My 172 that I used to own ran 166bhp std before I modded it.

With a viper, de-cat and smt6 chip/piggyback ecu I got 182bhp.

With a viper, de-cat, smt6, cams, exhaust I got 195bhp

With de-cat, cams and itb's I got 218bhp.

Would def recommend Saner's selection of mods above. Pretty much exactly what ive got.....

ITG Panel filter
Inlet Match
Remap (Pmurray)
Janspeed Sports Cat
Janspeed Backbox

Have not had it RR'd yet but there isnt really any point as its miles better then mine was standard.

Will still put it on the rollers though lol

  Lionel Richie
the most i've EVER seen in my brief 6 years in clios is 185bhp from a Viper, cat back and Superchip remap

  MK2 Audi TT - 2.0T dsg.
I have
ITG Panel filter
Remap (Pmurray)
Custom Cat back, with decat.
Soon getting Inlet Match
I don't know how much power it's added, maybe not much but it deff is more fun to drive! :D
