Tuning 172 cup

Hi there i have recently run my clio at the pod and got down too a 15.2. My aim is to get into the mid 14s and i was after some advice on the best tuning mods to obtain this. The car is completely standard.

Completly and utterly strip the car ever KG saved is free HP.

Best mods well you need a fair few hp top get there but stickly front tyres and resset the suspension so the wheel face forwars then manifold rework, decat, 4-2-1 exhaust manifold, high pressure on the rear tyres and realy strip it out even more.

My 172 FF has managed a 15.14 running a K&N which people hate and a magnex cat back system.

TBH best way of getting your speed down is to loose some weight:

Rear seats
Spare wheel
and lighter alloys are stage 1

Full interior
Lighter buckets
Racing alloys would be a stage 2

depends on what you use the car for. In general its not cheap to get extra horses from any tuned car.

It's closer to 15 kgs, which on a standard 172 Cup would give you about 3 more bhp/ton.

Don't scoff though...how much does 3 bhp cost normally? £47 for a panel filter? Or maybe £100 for a decat? There's plenty of people that spend money on them.

Yet taking back seats out costs nothing and does make a difference (as much as a panel filter/decat does anyway)

sorry to hijack ne1 know how you get around running a decat and having 2x lambda sensors? does it not make the car run funny?

nope, no problem, they're a strange car, some will put the light up on the dash, but generally 172 cups don't

Best remap is a custom made one but only do it when you've finsihed adding bits to your car so it will take advanatge of your engine the most it can.

I've got an r-sport ecu on mine and it's much better, currently my best was a 15.3 with a viper without a caf and full interior...........now i've got full exhuast system, decat, viper and r-sport and will be stripping to buggery for end of the month jaunt to the pod!

hoping for mid-low 14's

the 1/4 mile??? its done a 14.4 on a boiling day at pod IIRC, has potential for a 13.9 if setup to do so
