Tuning a Williams

DNT

  Clio Williams
I have a williams but want to get more power out of it. right now it is chipped and has some light tuning but i want it to be alot quicker. If i can get 200 bhp i would be happy. Does anyone have any suggestions about the best ways to mod a williams to acheive the power i am looking for?

  1.8 8v RSi
this is where you start spending thousands of pounds...if you really want all that power then you have to start upgrading engine internals. It has been done. having that sort of power will shock M3 drivers at the lights. but as said it will cost you thousands for that power.
turbo should be first on the list though if you want a quick boost

True, and i understand about the money, but im not looking for a turbo, i would rather get the power from a NA engine. so what kind of mods/internals/money are we talking about?

with well chosen mods you can get 200+bhp without having to do anything as drastic as internals. Decent headwork from someone proven with the Williams (Port Formance have got good results), cams and a decent map will take you there providing the engine is decent to begin with.

GazTwo over on www.williamsclio.co.uk has a 201bhp Williams powered Clio 16v that's an absolute beast. 2 live's car cant have been far off that if not that either and the head and BE are completely stock. That ran a 14.0 with just the rear bench and spare taken off, which for the spec is still easily the quickest time anyone has run, the rest need doors and panels removing to get near it.

  Looking for a ph-quick...
Very true. Can still get good power without having to change internals. My hybrid is about 190bhp Hill power built. 2ltr bottom end, head work, cams and adjustable pullies.

I spoke to nick hill, and he said with cams, pullies, ported and a remap, it will provide around 15-20 bhp bringing it up to about 170-175. that will set me back nearly 2k.
AmirClio, what did hillpower do for you to get the 195?
I havent heard off Port Formance, where are they based, im in London

DNT, iirc Nick uses Piper regrinds and tends to favour the 270 profile of cam and times them in so there's no lumpy idle... which seems to have the added affect of low power. I got one of his engines for my mate, it has Piper 270's, pulleys, gas flowed head and remap and it was slow. It was a little better on stock ECU, but not great tbh... wasn't really impressed, although it does run very smooth.

Port Formance are in Warrington, but I'd buy the cams and pulleys myself and get a local garage to time to stock and fit, then take it to someone like Chip Wizards to get the best out of the map.

What cams would you recommend for the williams and where is the best place to get them?

cat cams, cant remember the specific model number of the ones I had, I got them through BenR... speak to him, he'll know which ones to order. I ordered mine through him and paid well over the odds though, I'd do it direct as a lot of tuners are just after taking your money and making a fast profit.
