tuning help needed 1.816v

  DRIFT 200SX + CLIO 16V
after a bit of help here new to this club!. I have just bought back my old clio 16v and looking to have a play around on a track. Have spent the last two years building a drift car so im a bit out of touch with naturaly asperated engines!! Its a 16v mark 1 phase 2 (if thats how u say it). am I right in saying that you can use the williams bottom end with a 16v head? If so then can the 16v ecu be used with a new chip or does it have to be williams ecu?
I am also after a bit of information on limitations in regards to gearbox and what options there are. The block will have forged items (making it bullet proof now for future mods) and head work will take place with valves springs and a nice set of lumpy cams.
ive been told that throtle bodies are expensive method?
the goal is to break 180bhp for now with decisions made for next winter ( prob turbo conversion). What can the orginal gearbox take? what can the williams box take? and what are the options for upgrading as will get this bit done now for later tuning?

Any advice taken
cheers
tom

yes you can use the williams bottom end with the 16v head, but it isnt as good, your best using the 2.0 megane head. for 180bhp the cheapest way would be to go turbo, i would imagine throttle bodies would get you there but in the long run cost much mroe money. Speak to nick read if he's still about as he ahd a fantastic turbo williams.

thanks is it just a strait swap in regards to using the megane head?

Again what ecu. Im not too worried about the power outputs at the moment that will come with time.

Im not one for building bodge jobs the last car took 3 years to develope and i would mich rather get the right advice in regards to engine wise now and work on a 2lt and, if its the best way to go megane head, rather than waste tim on a 1.8!

Incorrect info sorry,

2ltr bottom end sourced from a williams (f7R700) or a megane coupe (F7R710/714) is where you want to start, a 1.8 on track just doesnt get the blood moving.

From then you can use the 1.8 head on it no problems, it will be perfectly fine. However an easy bowl port on std valves will rid the head of its natural flaw and that is all you need, cheap easy work.

Add a set of cams either of my design, or one of the many cam manufacturers available. The right profile will net you 180odd bhp on a stock bottom end with terribly good torque. Remap required ofcourse.

There is no need to go bodies or turbo to reach 180bhp, and the mk1's are relatively fast compared to most stuff with that small amount of bhp.

Bodies will net you over 200bhp all the way to ultimately circa 280bhp, but 250 is a nice limit. 215bhp can be had on a std bottom end on bodies and modified megane head and cams etc, but it all gets costly after that not that the listed mods are 'cheap'.

Yours? how much may well be interested!

What will the gearbox do with 180bhp? and can the standard ecu with a chip and mapping sesion be used or is a change needed.

It cost dosent seem too bad im used to hks rip off prices!!!!

Just PM or email me for cam info.

The std 1.8 gearbox can cope, the JC series just doesnt like clutch dump and drag racing too much, apart from that, on track its fine.

the jC3 in the 1.8 has shorter ratios as the 1.8 revs higher, so might be better on track...depending. The JC5 in the 2ltr has taller ratios and is slightly stronger.

thanks for the help. Im making a start this weekend gathering a few more parts but should be up and running in a month or two. If a good friend of mine does come up with a throttle body set up for me (good possibility) then what can the box take? What are the options over a std or williams box!

i'm just gonna stop talking about mk1's. lol. I've read so much about tuning mk1s yet i'm still getting it wrong.
