BMW Z4 3.0i
I'm constantly researching at looking at what car I'd like next. Now one of the car's I've been looking at is a Megane 225 cos a FF for £15k seems like a great deal, plus all the second hand models are gonna bomb in price.
My main question is this: If the ecu remaps which are widely available are so effective (especially on turbo and diesel cars), why don't the manufacturer's put on these remaps in the first place? It wouldn't cost them anything and surely makes their car more appealing resulting in higher sales. I can understand cheap parts and researching design, butthese ecu guys stick on rollers for 15 mins and you're done, is that not the case? Call me a cynic, but it just seems too good to be true. People who have had them done say economy isn't reduced and maybe even improved in some cases because of improved power bands.
Specifically referring to the magane 225, I've seen people saying that on a standard 225, a remap can take it to 265 bhp and keep reliability and economy.
Part of me wants someone to point out what is really wrong and why maybe extra load will kill your car in five years or whatever. If I don't get a good answer here, I may seriously ask Renault UK for their views.
