Turbo ph1 project

  Clio 172
Hi guys
Could do with some advice really
I want to do a high boost conversion to my ph1 172
I have bought a homebuilt turbo engine which came with a turbo, turbo manifold boost hoses intercooler slimline rad and fan omex 600 ecu magane injectors uprated map sensor gearbox with helix four paddle clutch dump valve. Running low boost on stock internals mapped by schoff to 241.6bhp
Now im going to build up the engine thats in my car with cosworth pistons and rods acl big end bearings put the walbro furl pump in the tank etc..
Now a few people are now telling me the omex 600 is no good and i should get a gen90 from ktec
Also i have a 182 exhaust system on my 172 including manifold but the ph1 this engine came off had stock system so im gonna need the pipe to connect it up mega bucks for a decent one!!!
Question is should i work with what ive got or should i sell it and buy a kit from ktec ive tried contacting schoff but he wont get back to me so itl be a ktec kit

If I was you I'd get it fitted, have a custom link pipe made up as it will be a lot cheaper, run it and enjoy it while you rebuild your current engine to the spec you want.

did you phone scoff or pm him on here? I'd phone him as he is a busy man.

I dont have j
His number i tried ringingvefi parts but no answer ive emailed them there and pmed him on here... Got nothing

Ahh you bought dans setup then, first thing id say do is the oil return needs correcting and the boost pipes redoing apart from that its a decent setup

why did you buy an engine that was ready to drop into a car to then start stripping it and use hardly any of the parts?

He bought my old turbo down pipe that should fit straight onto the standard cat/decat pipe off a 172 so why do you need a new link pipe?

Agree with Michael, you paid for the engine and other parts. You might have been better ordering the TD kit if you wanted to go hi boost and convert your current engine.

This setup is what it is IMO and should be left that way. If you want to go hi boost then plan that way from the start rather than compromising from the off.

I will need a section of pipe as last year when i did my first bit of tuning i put a 182 manifold on and then bough a 182 decat and full system so the 172 manifold is shorter so theres more exhaust i think

And i looked into buying the kit and it seemed cheaper to buy dans setup chuck it in my car and then put forged low com internals in my engine then put the turbo on that upgrade injectors coil pack fuel pump etc i dunno what to do really also dan had the decent clutch in his gearbox and itl be nice to have spare engine and box!!

Omex boost control is a bit crude, but there are work arounds to it.

Ive mapped plenty of turbo cars on it with 300-400bhp out of 2 litre engines without any drama.

How far are you actually planning on going with it? cause I cant see the point in buying the setup you have if you are going to replace:
management
internals
turbo (and hence manifold as the one you have wont do massive power)

What are you actually going to be left with from the turbo kit that you will use?

  Clio 172
The only thing im going to change is the internal im gonna run his turbo and manifold and probably the ecu s few people had said it was crap but ive researched it a bit more and i think it will be ok im going to control the boost with a gizzmo bosst controller

What powere are you aiming for though matey? i'd say the turbo is only good for 300 at a push, imo just run it on the current engine till it goes pop then have the forged one built up ready to drop in

  Clio 172
Ive not really got an aim i spose i was kinda thinking bout 330 bhp well im gonna chuck it in my car as is and start the forged build straight away on my engine but i need to find out exactly what turbo it is etc to find out how much boost i can run

I was expecting to run 1 - 1.2 bar and ktec told me some of the not so good gt28 turbos have a ceramic impellor on the hot side which will not give that boost without going bang which is why i wanted to know what turbo it was. Im not an expert in this field so its difficult to know who to take advise from im more familiar with my evo engine which ive done a lot of work on but i know boost isnt related to power theres a lot of other things in the equation like inlet manifold exhaust manifold exhaust cams compression ratio and engine management but i just need to find out if this turbo will produce a decent amount off boost thats not on its limit

If its a genuine garrett GT turbo, it will be fine upto beyond 2 bar of boost (ie more than it will make on your engine anywhere other than midrange anyway)
