turns over but dont run

  delta evo1, 182
hi all first post ive just bought myself a 182 54 plate ive not had long but car has a fault wont start atall. ive looked in old posts but none sound like my problem.

i can turn the key and will crank /turn starter motor but cuts out stops from cranking after about 2 to 5 secs. i presume believe if immob fault would not crank or am i wrong. the car has been played with was running turbo engine but was swapped to original engine as left factory and is not best job bits missing flapping about etc. was put on diag tester and says fuel pump cant see why this would only allow few secs of cranking time.

all help appreciated as need car to get to work. and i knew could be fewe problems as car bought from a freind and i know all history of this car.

thanks all

You'll probably find there is a fault code for the decoder ring (sometimes pings up of battery is disconnected for a while), if you erase using clip it should be fine.

If it was this fault it would still allow car to be turned over. Any one got a clip or like to try it for me I'll pay of course thanks

You need diags mate... Just pissing in the wind without it and guessing can be costly.

Thanks all for replys. As you say I don't wan be changing all sorts done that with a Astra cost loads to get no where. I'll have a look at crank sensor thanks give clean etc check positioning. Was plugged in to diag machine said was fuel pump so I made up fly lead and pump works fine.
But by sounds of it don't prime when key turned and loads clicking behind dash. Tried chafing relays round pink ones near battery was looking for black ones but could not find them.

From personal experience an issue the the fuel pump itself will not normally throw a fault code on any diagnostic reader as they're not that complex (yet). Something more likely to give that kind of fault and a non-start/UCH fault would be the main control relays in the engine bay fuse box. Pull these and make sure there's no corrosion

i pulled the pink coloured relays near battery tiny bit but swapped around.
the guy i bought from had a look and he noted that immobliser red light is soild should this be im not sure having owned car short time.
you turn key trys crank but no fuel pump priming, can hear relay clickig in foot well and light stays solid.

all your help is very much appreciated

Red light is saying key accepted, imob disarmed but a key system is not reporting in over CAN so no start.

Check the gearbox area for damaged wires in the loom and I'd also pull the three fuses in the engine bay fuse box, clean em an replace

My car was doing this and it turned out to be one of the 12v brown relays in the engine bay, the one closest to the front of the car iirc, gave it a wiggle and everything's been fine since

CLIP won't really tell you anymore in situations like this. You need to understand the systems, how they're wired and what it is that's not working... This will be a simple issue causing the problem but it's finding it that'll be the tricky part.

I'll guess I'll keep trying. I see you can get a immobiliser delete /bridge kit would this be any good atleast takes immobiliser out the picture. Or even install new ecu and all what goes with it. I have a old Clio mk1 and alarm light on dash goes out after second or two. The alarm light on the dash of the 182 stays solid red constant so surely must be the immobiliser. On another note ecu next to battery loose as I say last owner chucked it together. If battery arched on the black metal case maybe fried ecu. But car was drove parked and will now not start so I doubt this I'm just looking into every possible cause. I would love to be able drive car 2moro save the bus or bike ride thanks all keep the help coming I need it

Personally id advise you against a bypass device as anyone can start your car once inside. Oh and no, if it was an immobiliser fault the led would be flashing at 4hz

I promise you, the imob is not your problem an you most likely have a wiring fault. If you wanna waste £100 though go ahead and replace the matched ECU/UCH/key set

No rather keep money in my pocket. I'll just have keep checking things until it pops up or is there anyone out there who wants a go at fixing cash waiting. As been at it 2 half days now checking this that swapping this and that and getting nowhere.
So if was flashing would be a immob fault if solid relay or earthing problem I'll keep at it but losing patience maybe up for sale soon if not solved. Thanks all

I tried it all I need some one with clip in Watford any takers I'll pay an I'm not cheap. I check all wiring 1 relay gets rather hot 1 on its own behind headlight. Or maybe I could borrow a ecu etc I'll pay just to make sure not u c h ecu transponder. I'm running out of time and patience

Thanks to all who helped on this. Was 1 small red light in loom above g box as many say where wires come back on them selfs. Now just to sort out the clicking relay in foot well non working fuel gauge and engine management light.
