You get what you pay for with tyres.
do a search, it's covered loads.
Widers always better ?
If it fits with no rubbing, off course. Bigger is always better, or so I'm told from women!
Yes, that's the correct size. Michelin PE2 are good if you can still get hold of them.

Very good for the price of them and last forever. If you're only using the car for road use, they are perfect.I've just had a set of 4 maxxis 195/45/16 MA-Z1's.
They came highly recommended and get great reviews.
Be interesting to see how they perform.
Got them from these guys http://www.tyretraders.com/tyres_home.aspx
Brilliant price and service. Ordered them Thursday morning and they arrived Friday morning.
Less than 200 notes for a set of 4.
I'm running 205/45/16 on my 172cup uniroyal rainsport2. Can't knock them and have been amazing in the wet and snow. Not too expensive either so get my vote. Car only gets used on the road though.
I run Hankook V12's on my Turinis and I can't sing there praise enough. Just put some Williams Speedlines on for track use and fitted them with some new PE2's and in the wet I'm impressed.
Yoko Spec 2's are a great tyre but they wear so fast.
PZero Nero, Conti SC3, Avon ZV5.
Have had these on mine for road and track use. Personally think the Pirellis are my fave. Avons seem to wear a bit better and are a bit cheaper but don't give quite as good feel.
I know you say for road use but do you drive gently to the speed limit or a bit quicker?
If you just drive in the city and average 30mph then there's no point going for the most expensive brands, to not reap their benefits.
I got 13k miles out of the last set of Spec 2's, which for the price I think is pretty good.
What are the V12's like in comparison to the Spec 2's and PE2's, in your opinion?
If I didn't go on track then I would probably just go for the Avons. I'm of the age where I buy with my head, not because of peer pressure. They are more than adequate for spirited driving IMO and are about £20 a corner cheaper than the top brands. Bear in mind Avon have been making race tyres for years, so they know what they are doing.
