Tyre dilemma! AD08 and R1-R

I was just about to order 4 x 195/50-R15 Yokohama AD08 at £72 each and noticed the same size Toyo R1-R for £58.50 each.

The R1-R are softer (faster wearing) 140 treadwear vs. 180 on the AD08. Not as fuel efficient G vs. F for the AD08 and the wet braking isn't as good C vs. A for the AD08.

But they are over £50 cheaper for the 4.

Will AD08's last a few track days and then some road driving too, say around 6k miles?

Can't comment as never tried the others, but for what you get, I'd say the AD08s are worth every penny.

I was only expecting 6k miles out of them so to be looking at 12k+ after two trackdays is remarkable considering the grip they give.

Are the AD08's ok to use in the wet for track days? Im torn between them or RSR's for my trip to the "ring" in the summer, dont want to get there in the wet and have to drive like a granny because my tyres arent up to it in the wet...

where did you hear this?
the last set of tyres I've had have been r1-r's and I rate them highly. I've done a mix of road driving, and some track days both wet and dry and they perform well.
Even in really wet rainy track conditions I wasn't afraid to push them round Snetterton, both cornering and braking. They have stiff sidewalls which give a good precise feel both on road and track.

Grip in the dry is very good also, but I can't comment on ad08s as I've never used them, but I think I will try them next :)

also where are the r1r's for sale at £60 each? ;)

Even 888s are fine in the wet. It's just standing water they don't like, AD08s should be better in standing water obviously due to more tread. I personally wouldn't get R1Rs JUST because they might be a bit better in the wet.

I never meant to imply they were better but I've no complaints :) all depends on the driver as to how good a tyre you need in those conditions

I think I'm going to go for AD08's. only problem is they will be 16" and will cost a fortune.

Need to save for some 15's this year at some point

I had AD08 on at the last Burpspeed Llandow day and that was like a monsoon. I'd say I had more grip than most.

I have some R1R but I've not used them yet. I'd expect them to give better lap times than AD08s but not as good as 888s and similar.

My AD08s in monsoon standing water/running river conditions at Llandow. They did really well until I asked for acceleration as well as cornering over a particularly deep puddle)...

ive been reading a few reviews on the web and other forums about them. ill be running the federal rsr personally as i havent read a bad thing about them yet and also have a mate with a polo 6n 1.8t pushing 300bhp with them one. wow that thing shifts ;)

but do you mean the r88s for 60each? i have 5 of them so will be outting them for sale on here very soon, so keep an eye out. :)

Ah yes I've seen them on Ears come to think of it, cheers!

that's fair enough mate, I'm just speaking from my personal experience :) I was debating between rsr and these last time, but at the time couldn't find the rsr for a decent price.

I actually meant the r1r's for 60 but I'll keep an eye out anyway ;)
