stu,
if it makes you feel any better i to ohad a problem with the same thing this week, and that was using ELITE tyres and wheels in rainham, who have a very big rep to hold up.
i watched like a hawk as they did it. firstly, for a company that lower cars for a living, they didnt have a lift low enough to lift my standard V6, so what do they do? 4 monkeys rocked the car so they could get the posts under!
the manager said its normal, i said why dont they drive it onto wood planks, he assured me there is no damage.
anyway, the monkeys spent 10 mins ooogling at the car, and how amazing it was, then started to remove the wheels. i checked my skirts, and there was no damage to them - thankgod.
they proceeded to remove tyres and fit my new eagle F1s, i told both fitters that the tyre pressure should be 31 psi, to which they said ok. then they fitted the wheels back to the car, and rather than get the bolts started by hand, they just gunned them up - this is the primary cause of stripped hubs, luckily mine are ok.
then they refitted the centre caps (removed for balancing) and fitted them wrong, so used a SCREWDRIVER to remove them, scratching the wheel.
then they checked the front pressures, and said you only have 21 psi in those, they are really low. i replied thats all they are meant to have. silly git, do they ever check the graph?
so out came the car i paid and went home. i checked the pressures, only to find 40 psi in one rear and 46 psi in the other! the car felt twitchy as hell - i assumed due to new rear tyres.
there really is nobody you can trust these days, i have faith in my reno garage to take car of my car, but there tyre prices are very expensive.
