Tyre size question

  172 Cup

Is it possible to fit 205/45/16 size tyres onto the standard cup wheels? Sorry if its a stupid question but Ive been offered some S-02s in this size.

Yeah it is possible, but I would stick to the standard 195/45R16s if I were you!! Youll decrease acceleration!!

Well yeah, theyre only 10mm wider and they wont over hang the wheels.

Most people do seem to prefer, and stick to putting 195s on.

Yep I had 205s 0n my 15s instead of 195s and it was fine... Maybe a tad slower!

Cheers for the replies. Cant beleive the massive ammount of choice in that size compared with 195s.

205s will effect handling..but i find 195s on teh cup wheels (with contis at least..) provide no protection on the rim.

thats the strange thing about the conti design. The contact area seems less for a 195 tyre the sidewalls taper in loads from the rim to the contact patch.

My 195 uniroyals fit on the cup wheel and offer slightly more rim protection.

Yes, they will fit the standard rims perfectly, and in fact the new 182 comes with 205s as standard, so theres not a problem.

As for the S-02s get them, get them NOW!!!

Had a set of these on my 306 Rallye and they are by far the best tyres Ive ever had on a car!

Very tempted as they are £20 cheaper per tyre than the Goodyear GSD3s. Just dont want to lose any performance by going for a wider tyre.

I very much doubt youll see much, if any performance difference by going to a 205 tyre, but you should get more traction, and if Renault decided to fit them to the 182 there must be no problems...

They really are superb in the wet, and I could get all the power down in the Rallye no probs!

Theyve stopped making them too, so I couldnt get more for the Rallye...

Do it, you wont regret it!

Hummmm, would these fit to some 15x7 alloys? I have 195s on atm.

Kerbed mine twice in about 6 months now..and the garage kerbed em once.

Would getting 205s next be a benefit on my cup then?
Wider tyre = more contact area = more grip = better traction

The 182 comes with them, so Renault Sport must think theyre a good idea!
