Tyres and Alloys question

I currently have 15'' alloys with 195/50/15

Want to get some 17's but people have said they will rub

the tyres would be 205/40/17

is it the 205 and 195 the width of the tyre as the 195's i have got on there at the moment there is much room behind them as it is

also lowered 40mm apex

The 205 part is indeed the width of the tyre. Tbh though the width of a 205 tyre varies between brands, same for all sizes actually.

You could look into having the arches rolled to prevent them form rubbing, or your maybe luck & they might not rub.

how much would that cost and what does involve?

Having the arches rolled involves them cutting the lip on the inside of the arch down, if they rub on the inside where the spring is you'll need spacers.

Price wise, best of calling up your local mod place in the yellow pages, unless you wanna diy it up with an angle grinder etc.
You may get away without any work though.
