I have noticed the 182's have 205 tyres where as my 172 is on 195. Does it affect gearing much if I go up to 205 section? as still 45 aspect ratio

It wont affect speedo or gearing, just more surface area on the road more noise, more grip.

If you change the profile it will.

both are 45 aspect ratio, but the profile is a percentage of width ie, 195-45-16 the profile is 45 percent of 195 mm or the case of 182's 45 percent of 205 mm (correct me if I'm wrong here guys) so 205,45,16 are slightly larger in diameter

205 is the width, so yes 205 is wider than 195.

45 is the profile, so the same profile.

16 is the rim size.

yeah the profile of the tyre is a percentage of the width though, so 45 percent of 205 is more than 45 percent of 195 so in theory 205/45/16 is slightly further in circumference than than 195/45/16. I just wondered if it was much

205/45/16 will have a slightly larger circumference than 195/45/16 but not enough to make much of a change to anything.

Don't forget the speedo usually over-reads anyway so you won't have to worry about the change in speed.

I think the total difference in overall circumference will be less than 15 mm. Is that what you wanted to know?

The diameter of the wheel would be %1.55 (9mm) less.

195/45/16 Rolling radius 182.81cm / Sidewall height 8.78cm
205/45/16 Rollling radius 185.64cm / Sidewall height 9.23cm

Your speed will be 1.5% greater,

So when your speedo reads 30mph you'l be doing 30.5mph, at 60mph youl be doing 60.9mph.

Nope, but also on the flip side my 182s had 195s on since feb.

I prefer the 205s, they seam more stable for some reason.
