Uch help please!

  Audi A3
Hi all, ha some problems with my Uch so picked up a 2nd hand Uch, ecu and key fob tool it to a Renault guy who told me the keys were either broke (not transmitting a code) and or off a different car, and the ecu case looked different to mine (from a cup to a normal 172)

What should I do next, is there a way of using this 2nd hand Uch on my car or getting new keys?

After it was all fitted and then put back to original the 'flickering' is a lot lot leas but still occurs, any reason this could be?

Cheers guys, it's driving me nuts!

Sounds like you have a potential wiring fault if it's still there with a replacement unit.

As Mick says, wiring is most likely. I would be useful to have it plugged into diagnostics to double check though. Also, i'm not sure whether the ECU set you're using may cause issues. The ECU/UCH may be the earlier gens, however the keys should still work.
When you say flickering? Do you mean the immobiliser light? If so, the key set you're using may not match the coding on the decoder ring around the key barrel which would cause the light to flash.

The unit I bought was never really fitted, it went in then the Renault tech realised the keys from the 2nd hand set id bought weren't transferring a signal.

The flickering is just noise coming from the fuse box, however when my passenger puts their foot underneath the glove box it does stop it.
He said the 2nd hand ecu/Uch seemed ok, and was an N3 so should of been good for it.

Now I don't know wether or not to buy a new Uch or another set again or have a go at the wiring.

Would a diagnostic tell me if it was the wiring or an actual component?

It would give you a better idea than you have at present yes but it won't tell you 100% if you have a wiring fault... that needs a keen eye and diagnostics that can perform actuations. If they work (Or if the UCH say's they're working on the actuation screen) it narrows down the fault to either wiring or physical component failure.

tech at renault has told me its definitely the uch as when he plugged the other one in eveyrthing was fine, what a bloody headache!

It could be the UCH then, which unfortunately isn't a cheap one :( I think they are around £300 and that's before programming. Plus your keys will need resyncing to it. changing all of your ecu/uch/keys/decoder should work straight away if that is the case. If not, then problem is elsewhere. most likely wiring preventing the UCH from powering up and hense not being visible on clip. Where are you located? Renault will rape you on this one unfortunately.
