UCH programming, South Wales

My mate needs to get a UCH programmed to his car, Current one appears to be faulty. we have bought a "new" unit from the breakers in Swansea but as its come off a car it is not blank. Hes had a guy out to program it but failed due to the data being already on it.

Anyone know of anyone in south wales who can erase and write the new uch ready to be fitted to his car?
Cheers

Sorry to butt-in but to do what you want isn't as easy as it sounds. Whoever is doing this will need both UCH's to firstly copy the original vehicles security and config data from and then dump it on on the replacement... not a simple task which will require some serious equipment.

We have both uch units to "copy and paste" I just rather someone suggest someone that could do it rather than driving miles and being disappointed. Am I correct in thinking they need the car? Or would they have a harness to plug into the uch.

Oh billy were in Swansea. Have passed that number onto my mate to call tomorrow.

CLIP cannot "cooy/paste" programmed data from one unit to another non-virgin unit I'm afraid. As above, that route is not simple but possible by electrical engineers with some very specific equipment.

Quit pissing around with old crap, buy a new one, you will save yourself money in the long run.

Not my money/car its the route my mate is choosing. I'd of got rid of the car a long time ago if it was mine. Cheers so far. So far we have a guy in Pontypridd who is certain he can do it. And the garage in Carmarthen to ring tomorrow.

Well you haven't listened to the already good input above so i'm not going to waste my internetz breath repeating them. You need the OEM diag tools (which very few people have and were talking very much specialist work) or physically edit the eeprom chip which some mong out of the paper isn't going to be able to do.

A new uch is what these days £150? That will work (assuming its the uch at fault) and can easily be setup by most people, why make life hard.

07973 498464 ring that number and ask for Lawrence tell him Kirk from Trostre past his number on. He from Swansea and does all my ecu decoding and programing. But normally needs the original car to decode or erase the data. But give him a ring anyway

Cheers buddy, turns out my mate had that number booked and cancelled because he's (my mate) a knob. In the end I took the uch new and old to a guy in Pontypridd who did it. Unknown if it actually works yet.

All in he paid 55 for the uch from the local breakers with a warranty, and 60 to get it programmed by Chris. Why make life expensive? Car is a 180k 2001 reg mk2ph2 1.2 pointless putting shed loads into it.

Yeah the process of moving the config data is easy enough if you've got the equipment but the problem with UCH's are they are a ticking time bomb on every X65 on the road as at sime point a component will fail. I love my Clio and if it cost £280 for a new one vs £180 for a used one I'd go new everytime purely for piece of mind but thats me.

Did he find out why the old UCH died? Commonly its water ingress and if its this he may want to sort that if so before it claims his replacement.

Yea the old one came out of the car pretty damp. Car hasn't left his garage until he sorts out where the water is coming from. At least it starts and is drivable now.

I'd put even money on it being the scuttle panel drains unless the window seal is leaking

Sorry if i have missed something but for what reason did you think it was the uch? As my clio will lock/unlock ignition comes on, dash lights, immob light goes off and electrical fault light stops on will crank/turn over but no start. It said (the person i bought it from said) the RAC man said the diagnostics said no communication with ECU.

Wheres is UCH located to check for corrosion and damp.

Sorry bit long winded lol. :)

Thanks in advance!!
