Uh oh...

It all started innocently enough when I took off my airbox to clean the filter element... I just couldnt resist a quick blast around the block without the airbox in place to see how what an induction kit would sound like.

On idle it was still quiet, but as I took off on 1st the familiar hiss of air being drawn into the throttle body was back! Into 2nd and the hiss turned into the deep growl I so miss from my old Valver. HISSSSSSSWWWOOOOOOAAAAAARRRRRR!!!

Help! I have every intention of keeping my Williams standard, but I think Im getting close to fitting an induction kit - yes, yes I know its a silly idea especially in the summer, but have you heard my Willy GGGRRRRROWL?

What should I do? I dont know that Id be able to hold off a full stainless system for long if I did get an IK, then there would be a de-cat, headwork, a chip... etc... and Id have a modified Willy before I knew it! Its all or nothing!

i was the same bought the 172 so i didnt need to mod it an i already done springs an viper an plenty more planned!

Didnt want to mod my 172 when I bought it new. 1 month later, springs. 3 months later, Magnex.....

2 years later, strut brace, splitter, ECU, rims, silcone hose kit, filter .........

go on, you know you want to :devilish:

same with me bought 172 cup so i didnt need to mod had it 2 months and zorst is on i want ik no chip though ..... couldnt help myself go for it mate;)

Yeah, no disrespect to 172s etc but theyre like a Valver in that basic mods dont compromise their appeal to sellers. Moding a Willy is often considered a no-no beyond the very basics and I wouldnt go as far as that anyway. Ill sleep on it I think!

mate, although i dont agree with changing the physical looks of a will, cause they are the best lookin hot hatch on the road STILL, i think engine mods are amust to entice i fer more of those hodden ponies that the willy cries out for and hasdonesince it was unleashed on the public.

go for it mate, ive had a valver runnin on an induction kit and it sounds sweet, so i can only imagine a willy would sound very nice.

Ben Im always having this argument with myself with the valver, just strap bits on you can take off if you ever sell the willy (will you ever sell it?!) Plus the money you spend on it is a benefit, all the bits can go in the garage till its time to say goodbye..

Id love to get a standard williams bit I dont think id walk away from a good one with exhaust decat headwork etc.. aslong as they hadnt touched the special bits darn it id probably buy it there and then! Suck Roar Zoooom!

sh*t, this has got me reminiscing about when I had my induction kit on! I know it lost power but now Im wanting it back - it sounds so good! Methinks Ill be buying a cleaning kit and slapping it back on for a bit!

Stick a de-cat on! Noise and the power... Would I be right in thinking with an induction kit AND a de-cat id be slightly better off than just the standard valver?

Already de-catted, but its still not the same - it just makes the exhaust louder and I want engine induction ROAR! Used to turn a lot more heads with the IK. Ive never had the IK on at the same time as the de-cat but reckon itd sound pretty awesome.

I meant performance wise as apposed to the noise it makes - would the decat make up for the induction kit being fitted + unleash more horses?

What about a viper for it ben. I would mod the engine to release more power. Or make yourself a custom intake and heat sheild to prevent it from the hotness (not a real word but sounds good)

I would have thought theyd about cancel each other out prerformance-wise, maybe slightly up? Depends on the under-bonnet temp I guess, as thats whatll affect the losses from the IK

use the filter for every day driving then take it off for track days etc.

If you need the performance just remove the filter.

By all means mod the engine. Put a sensible looking zorst on etc and itll be cool.

Dont touch the body.

Right! The deed is done. Ive ordered an induction kit for occasional use.:D I just miss the noise too much.

I know it shouldnt be like this, but I just ordered the cheapest I could find as I know it wont gain me any power and Ill probably not use it that much. Its a Pipercross foam one if anyones interested - my mate had one on his Valver and it muffled the noise less than the K&N I had on my Valver at the time.

Ive actually had a de-cat lying around for a while, so Ill get around to fitting that too. Worry not though - the exhaust system itself and everything you can see on the car will be staying 100% standard!

Good man! Ill probably end up doing the same thing now if even youve been tempted to fiddle with the willy..

Well, Im not moding it really. ;)

The de-cat is going on because I know catalysts are very expensive to replace. The IK is my ONLY concession!!

omg BenH modding a willy......whatever next? lol
lol

I say go for it (and you already are so :D) - youre not modifying it, youre enhancing it for your own pleasure.. isnt that what you bought it for in the first place?

The decat is a very worth while mod. Pluss i know what you mean about the induction noise, cant beat it lol.

dont leave the decat on too long it will shag the backbox! I have an old scorpion exhaust and im putting the de cat on that for shows ect! otherwise it remains standard!

I was gonna say that you should have bought a panel filter K+N or Green and got hold of another standard airbox and cut big holes in the plastic of the airbox, it will give a top sound!

I didnt think Id see this day!;) I dont think there is anything wrong with making a great car a bit better, as long as it improves performance it all good imo.
