under powered clio 182

just bought my clio 182 (on 54 plate) and love it to bits but just had a race with my mate in his mg zs 180 and could not keep up with him. am i wanting too much out of the clio or have i got a problem! HELP.

what service history has it gone belts been changed ? timing out maybe ? its a pretty common problem it belt wasnt done by a specialist.

Mind, the ZS180 has a 2.5 V6, and the KV6 is quite a revvy engine. 0-60 is meant to be 7.3 seconds, and the top speed is so say 139mph. Those stats are damn close to a 182, so there shouldn't actually be much in it in a straight line. EVO reviewed it back in the day and said it had a well sorted chassis, and it would be good if it didn't look so much like a chav spec grand dad Rover 45.

yer with the weight dif it should be pretty much neck and neck he shouldnt have been stuggling to keep up maybe at silly speeds but now low down.

i don't think it would make a huge difference ive always run mine on super so i never experience it on normal .

none, bearing in mind you probably wont be running the book figure of 179bhp either

36k or 5 years iirc

If you can't put it on a rolling road try this, put it in 3rd, at a steady 50 kph (that's 30 mph), floor it and at the same time start the clock and stop it at 90 (56)...let me know the accel time, we'll see how it goes.
