Unlocking an iPhone 4 question

Hello. Might be less complicated than I'm making out here, but hopefully can get some answers from those in the know.

Basically, my old 4 is now going to be used by the other half. However it is locked to the Vodafone network. Any ideas on how I can solver this? Do I have to jailbreak it or can you ask Vodafone to unlock it somehow?

Also, it's now clearly on iOS 5 as I plugged it in to wipe it. Can this be jailbroken/"undone"?

I searched the Vodafone eforum and there is no definitive answer!! Just threads on where is my 4S...

How long is left on your contract you got the 4 on?

Ring Voda, they will be the only ones able to unlock it as the baseband version won't be available to any of the current unlock tools.
