Upbadging Nonces

Surprised there’s not already a thread for this, so thought I’d start one. Post spots of horrific upbadging here.
I’ll start:

It's something i have struggled to get my head round for years, it's like sticking an M3 badge on a 320d, what do people actually get out of doing that?

Guy up at the kids' school has an 9th / 10th (?) generation Civic that he's put a Type-R badge on the back of, when it's clearly anything but. No other mods or attempts to dress it up, just the badge.

Literally anyone who knows anything about cars would instantly know that it's not a Type-R, and anyone who doesn't know, isn't going to be the slightest bit impressed anyway.

I can't imagine what the thought process is here.

The amount of utter mongoloids who call their C30/S40mk2/V50/C70mk2 Volvo an ‘R’ because it has the R-design trim package is absolutely f**king rife. Aside from the fact that there isn’t an R model of those cars, it’s generally not even a fast one either, it’s always the 1.6d owners doing it.

I don’t get the whole thing as above, people who know about cars know you’re a pedo if you do this and people who don’t know about cars don’t care, so what’s the point?!

There’s a fella who drives around near us in his BMW X5 (E53) with Clio V6 badges on the wings above the original 3.0d badges 🥴

Surprisingly though no //M badges adorn his car.

I was behind a guy with a White ///M220i yesterday, bloke was easy in his mid to late 50's, shame I didn't get to waste him down the express way.

Same with the people who have a TDi Golf R-Line, it's basically the same car... right...

I blame VW for stupid badge choices there though.

Front badge on a Golf R:
R

Front badge on a Golf R-line:
Rline

Guess they know their market.
All manufacturers do it, BMW with M Sport, Merc with AMG-Line, Audi, VW, etc and now Ford have ST-Line

Sell a smaller engined model with a couple of sport bits and a fancy name to unsuspecting muppets, it works!

VW we’re doing it on Mk2 Golfs, the GTD never really caught on at the time.

Yeah I've had that at work but it was a bit weird because they called mine an M3, I then corrected them and they then told me they had a M4 and it was just a 420 d M sport grand coupe. I then thought I shouldn't have corrected them on mine :ROFLMAO:

Diesels were not really that popular back then though, whereas Golf GTD's are now very common, so VW were ahead of their time.

One of my friends brunged a new Fiesta a couple of years back, and in the weeks prior to me seeing it I was told and under the impression it was an ST, only to find it was actually a 5-door ST-Line. I pointed it out (because I couldn't help myself) and he just glazed over, shrugged and said he didn't know what the difference was.

I thought I was dyslexic 5 words in.

He most definitely should do - his insurance premium alone should tell him what the difference was. ;)

I was met a friend of a friend years and years ago who said he had an MG ZR to try and impress me, as he knew I liked cars. When he showed me it was a maroon Rover 25. I pointed that out and he said "well they're same anyway".

I’ve this thing I’m not sure how long it’s been going on.

People taking the rear seats out the car putting a net that’s used to catch fighter jets with no brakes. and then advertising it as a “clubsport”
