Updating 172 sound system

  Clio 172
I want to update the sound system in my mk1 172. Nothing too fancy; I just want to fit better speakers in the original positions and get a new head unit that I can either plug an ipod into or some form of data card (USB/Smart). What are you recommendations? Budget around £500, and second hand ok.

thats a good budget, if youdont mind second hand I can probobly get an amp, components wires and h/u for that cash.

£200 on H/U there are a few alpines going in the TA exchange www.talkaudio.co.uk

£150 Components - DLS R5As avaiable brand new from Tech Audio see www.dls.se then look at distributors They fit straight in the holes for the woofers and you can mount the tweeters on top of the dash.

£100 AMP loads of 2 channels on TA exchange for that sort of cash, remember to haggle

£50 for RCAs, good quality popwer wire and speaker wire Will sound amazing mate :)

General rule of thumb, within your budget, would be to go for an Alpine H/U, but for speakers, amps, etc there are so many different brands available that its hard to suggest anything in particular. Everyone has different opinions os its best if you can get to a car audio shop and listen to as many different examples as possible. I'm currently using DLS (components), Alpine (amps), and Phoenix Gold (sub).

If you're serious, PM me, I have a friend that works for a well-known car audio manufacturer and consequently I can get ridiculous discounts; £800 worth of headunit, amps, speakers, components and sub cost me less than £500.

He's good friends with the development engineers so they can advise on a decent set-up, rather than trust what a salesman has to tell you.

Kenwood are sh*te, they sould stick to making food processors IMO.

Its 2 different companies. kenwood corporation and kenwood limited.

2 different logos. 1 is based in the USA and the other the UK.

But im not a big fan of kenwood units prefer alpine or pioneer myself. That pioneer unit though is supposed to be an amazing unit for the price. The alpine on is as well.

how about the Alpinje h/u @ 200

A very nice buy slightly scratched DLS CA21 (2x150 RMS) amp for £100 delivered (From me:) )

£150 for DLS R5As from Tech Distribution Ltd
187 Westgate
Bradford
West Yourkshire
England
BD1 3AD
Phone: +44 (0) 1274 201414

leaves £50 for a 4 awh amp kit

Will sound very vvery good and leave huge scope for adding a sub and second amp if you so desire

That is almost the previous front end I had in mine (I used the R6As though) and it sounded very clear with great depth and good linearity

If you are good with the positioning of the tweeters you will also get a very broad soundstage with effective bass and mid range

It will also go loud and the H/U will look cool :)
