Upgrades on 172 Mk2 motor?

  RenaultSport Clio 172 Mk2
Hi what can I do to my Clio 172 Mk2 motor to make it faster and still reliable? I was thinking about turbo or supercharge but it's going to cost alot and my car isn't going to be reliable , so what else can I do?:S

Take £2k and give it to GDI along with your car, collect when complete and smile all the way home!!

Hi , I live in South Africa so +/- R10 000. I want a car that kickes a#s without turbo,supercharger or Nos.:approve:

OK engine work as follows,

Exhaust, (2.5"-3" bore)
Decat / sports cat
ITG Maxogen filter

manifold match
headwork

Choice of engine management:
Hill Power chip
Rsport ECU
SMT7
OMEX

V expensive mods:
Throttle bodies
Supercharge (not available in this country yet...........)
Turbo

If you havent done anything yet,

Start with the top 3 and see how you get on. Speak to one of the main tuners for better info.

Hillpower
BBPT
GDI
AWT
Yozzasport

I have approx 205bhp and have no reliability issues. You must be prepared to spend a few thousand to get any noticeable power increase

Talk to local tuners but sounds like throttle bodies if you have the cash for 215bhp+

I would say, In this order...
Good Panel filter (itg)
Matched Inlet
decat
182 manifold
2.5-3.0" exhaust
SMT6 or Omex ECU management
Ported head
Cam
Throttle Bodies

surely you'd want to do the ECU last otherwise it will need remapping if you add anything?

What do you mean by Decat, take the cat out? If you take the cat out won't you have problems with your sensors?:(

you can cam, ECU, decat, gas flow the inlet manifold and viper a 172 for less than £1k

No chance!!!!!!!! bearing in mind not everyone's a mechanic matt

Gas flowing =200 + 50 fitting
ECU = 300 +mapping mayb
Decat = 135, 80 2nd hand.
Viper/Ik = 150+
Cam regrinds are gash are 300 billets are 500 and fitting is 8hrs labour.

I don't understand your breakdown of costs above?

The New ECU will have a base map which will be miles better than the std ECU it will allow you to run your other mods with a better result, Finish the tuning then get it mapped to the optimum for that vehicle.

Just wondering..
Why 2.5" or 3" bore?
I think 2" or 2 1/4 is better for this engine, better flow you know.

How big Clio Cup -cars use?

Yep...most aftermarket ecus do indeed have generic base maps when you install them
