upgrading 1.2 to 1*2 brakes, few Q's

does the calliper bolt directly to the hub or would i need a bracket made up?
whats size are sport disks i been told 280mm?
and what are the pros/cons with abs and how would i de activate it should i decide?
and finally grooved, vented or drilled discs to be used with greenstuff pads

all for a fast road setup :)

Dont you dare buy greenstuff! Just go to the fridge, get a lump of cheese and trace the pad around it and cut it to shape, Then stuff it into the carrier and you have yourself a home made greenstuff pad

You'll need a bracket to mount the caliper and 280mm discs. IMO, its not worth it. Just get better discs and pads with some fresh fluid for road use.

i'd go for a wilwood conversion and keep the 259mm discs

by "upgrading" to 280mm discs you're only going up slightly in diameter and a tiny bit in thickness

don't forget the faster* Williams uses the same discs, pads and calipers as the mk2 non sport clios

*keeps 9lives happy, also the williams is a fair bit lighter

only reason hes upgrading is because im doing the conversion and having 172 calipers on to handle the power, and since i can get them resonably cheap he wouldnt minde the braking + looks of bigger brakes lol

whats the cost of the wilwoods fred?
i can get 1*2 calipers for £20 and discs for £40 and then however much the pads cost been quoted £60 fro greenstuff

what would i need?

£450 give or take for wilwoods

its the brackets to convert your 1.2 hubs to accept the 172 caliper that is going to cost the money, there are already parts available to fit wilwoods or hispecs (what i use)

£370 for hispecs complete with lines, pads, discs, brackets etc NEW! (and that uses a 172 280mm disc)

Andy from GDI told me that the wilwood conversion wasn't worth it, to expensive to little gains. he recommended to me Brembo HC discs, Ferodo DS2500 pads and good fluid.

I ordered eerything from k-tec, didn't get the DS2500 pads, they sent me the wrong ones, got DS Performance instead. I did a trackday at Snetterton and couldn't get them to fade at all, same at Marham aswell.

In short, good discs and pads will do you fine son. As for ABS, its over rated!

the plan is to upgrade the chassis pretty much then slap a 2.0 in there as soon as monies allow so im sorting front brakes now then ill get a new rear beam to accept rear disks then possible coilovers etc
