Uprated 172 fuel pump

Stock pumps fine its got 120 liters/.hr capacity so thats ample for most people.
If you want more fuel then get the Evo upgrade pumps and swop the pumps over as the Evo one fits and is much cheaper.

Long story but ive got a problem with the car stuttering when flooring it. The whole car kind of labours if i push the pedal down at any pace and just wont accelerate, hits a sort of wall.

The rolling road guy is pretty sure its a fueling problem but where not quite sure exactly what it is.

Its running a SMT6 and up to 4k revs its running at its maximum settings and the cars still running lean!!

Ive changed the injectors but it hasnt helped the problem. A Fuel pump change is just a possibility hence the topic.

Any ideas what it could be thats causing the problem?

The car has cams, head work, inlet work etc

This all came to light after the car was found to be running dangerously lean. It was mapped and produced a disappointing 192 bhp and after driving it home it developed this stuttering problem. It went back on the rollers and made only 187 bhp only a week after making the 192 bhp !!

i would have thought theres more chance of it been the map than the fuel pump just my 2p's worth

I love these experts, yeah replace that it'll fix it.

Oh it didn't sort it, ok replace this.

Still not right? replace that.

What do you mean your fed up and have spent 2 grand on parst and none have fixed it, the problems your car...

lol

Go get it diagnosed properly.

Also 187 after a week where it was 192. Do a run then fart and it could have gone from 192 to 185 mate.

Who told you its dangerously lean? If its dangerously lean you'd know about it pretty fecking quickly.

Go tell the roller people to empty their water trap. Might magically find its over fueling by 50%.

I know you do.

How many forums is that now we have declared our undying love?

retro, williams, strombas, rsc and now CS that it?

Took it to a cruise forum rolling road day and it nearly had to be stopped it was running that lean. The guy who owned the RR was totally impartial because he knew nothing of my intent to go back and get the car set up at his garage.

Replacing injectors and fuel pumps is far cheaper than getting the whole ecu remapped or any other work which the problem could relate to.

Yes does seem a bit strange as to how it would lose so much power in a week. Cant really answer that one other than RR's are never gospel

its VERY unlikley to be the fuel pump or the injectors

the only point at which you'll need an uprated fuel pump is when you go above 250bhp, we run cira 240bhp on the stock pump

unplug the piggyback from the car and see if it is still running lean in the same areas, to eliminate that factor.

sorry to hijack, but will this delete the map? And can you map smt6??;)

why dick about.

To rule out the pump get it pressure tested and get the current scope round it to see if its dying. Normally checking the current will tell you right away if the pumps on its way. Pressure testing will also tell you if it holds pressure or its bleeding off due to a faulty regulator.

Getting that checked out is far cheaper than being a pillock and fitting new injectors and a pump.

I should just charge for doing that crap instead of findign the ACTUAL cause.

Its only started playing up since it was remapped. It was running lean before it was mapped, very lean. I didnt even need any conformations of that as i was killing small children with the zorst fumes and was getting overtaken by small low powered cars. lol

It is the fueling or more to the point the mapping of the SMT6 that must be the problem.

I disconnected the SMT on route for the morning rag and the stuttering problem is cured.

Weve come to the conclusion that the map i had done is too aggressive and not progressive because some of the load settings are at there maximum point when they should be no where near it!! not the RR place's fault. He just dosent know this engine

So basically it isnt the fuel pump injectors filters etc.

Who mapped the SMT6 ?

Just a local mapping guy.

Im not giving out names simply because its not a fact that he's shite at mapping but is to do with he dosent know how a SMT6 really works on this car.

There's loads of stuff and different areas to a SMT that can be messed with, such as ignition but dont actually need doing or cant be improved upon when mapping 172.

Might look like a simple case of shoving a few numbers in but its far from it.

I got the software here for mapping it, and I have no idea where to start! Not even gonna attempt to do it myself.lol.

Best to let someone who has experience with SMT6's & clio's to have a go now..

Yeah totally agree.

Its dead easy to make up a cable and download the software but knowing how to map this unit comes with experience.

Guy who mapped it said something about the SMT looks like it can run 2 different maps on the same unit enabling it to be switched over from one map to another with the flic of a switch depending on which map you want at the time!

Can anyone confirm this??
