Uprated Fitting Kit

  Bus Winker
Hi,

Does anyone know what size the thickest bolt is that could be used instead of the standard fitting kit?
I'm going to get my mate to make some at work but I'm not sure what figures to give him.

At the moment I am using washers and part of threaded bar as the normal fitting kit doesn't seem long enough.

Thanks,
STRBramley

genuine renault one?

I did buy a genuine Renault one but the bolts didn't seem long enough. So for a temporary fix I cut some threaded bar and used that with some washers on each end.
The problem is the bar isn't very thick so I am wanting to get a thicker one but I was just wondering what the thickest I could use.

well you're not fitting the fitting kit to be fitted correctly then!

More than likely but the pipe to the manifold is really rusty around the bolts which seems to be stopping the fitting in correctly. The genuine bolts seem to slip off as the sides have rusted away. I'm not sure.
I could do with a new pipe to the manifold tbh.

But for now a thicker threaded bar would do.

you need to smash out the old bits in the manifold so you can fit the new cups ;)

Ok Cheers :)

It's hard to explain why I have to use washers so I'll demonstrate with a crude drawing.

Is it supposed to be like that or is mine normal?

look at the new kit, there are 2 cups - yes?

the manifold will have the old ones still in there (but rusted beyond recognition) hammer and chisel the old bits out, then the new cups will slot in

Sorry I'm not sure what you mean by 'cup'. In the picture below do you mean the top part which goes between the spring and the bolt head?

It is supposed to be how yours is, dont worry it hasnt corroded :) I had the same worry, here is a link to the thread i made on it, on the last page it has a list of things i checked and did which may help you a bit.

the big silver cups! (those bolts are assembled in the wring order by the way)

put up a pic of your manifold

The cups are the deep ones by the nuts, just below the springs on this picture. You need to smack the old ones out as fred said, yours probably looks like it is the manifold corroding but it is infact these cups that have corroded. Smack the old ones completly out then the new ones will sit in all the way and it will fit well. I had to put a bit of grease on my new ones to get them to fit in nicely and hit them in evenly but i did eventually get them there!

Cheers guys. I seem to have lost one of the cups and I don't feel like paying out for another set. :S

Here is how I have it at the moment. My original question was what is the thickest I could have the bar circled in the image below?

I can actually see the old cups so they should be easy to remove but until I get round to buying another fitting kit I was wondering how thick I could have that bar? (As it seems too thin to me)
