UPS lost 3 of my alloy wheels!!

I sold 4 alloys through ebay about a month back some of you may remember them in the for sale section, sent them through interparcel.com and this was couriered by UPS.

Get a phone call from the buyer saying he only received one box! The top box with the label on!! Some how the other 3 boxes have become detatched enroute
Pic below of the boxes and how securely they were packaged together note the parcel tape and the duct tape and also the top box is lose, but after the pic was taken i wraped further parcel tape all the way around the whole package!

So now the buyer is getting really arsey and has started a dispute through paypal for them to review the claim, I was going to give him a refund but I've been told by UPS that they are investigating which can take up to 8 days. Also as of yet I don't know if all 4 were delivered and the buyer is trying to pull a fast one :S

Any advise? Seems a bit hard for UPS to lose 3 boxes weighing about 25kg! Also doesnt help that I only registered it as 1 parcel so the buyer thinks I only sent him one on purpose? for some weird reason :S Although the delivery label does say 1 parcel weighing 35kg so obvious that it wasn't just the 1 box...

Expalin the situation, say that ups are investigating etc & you'll tell him once you know. Not much else you can do. Were they insured ??

I paid interparcel.com extra few quid for insurance but they gave me some crap about the fact they can't claim for a package made up of boxes taped together... so I contacted UPS direct who said they would investigate then send a claim form if they couldn't find them...

I explained the situation to the buyer on the phone who said quote 'well that isn't my problem is it'

I've cancelled the standing order with paypal through my bank, can they still claim the money back? anyone know how it works?

bummer, dont look very well parcelled though... I see stuff going out of my work daily and they have to wrap it soooooo securely to cover themselves. s**t happens sadly, label each box seperately in future? put senders details and consignment number on them, or just make sure wrapped together so they cant become seperated.

Thing is I helped the driver load them into his van, he held the top box while I had hold of the other end and we loaded it in... surely if it was badly wrapped it would have fallen apart as it does weigh 35kg and we were holding it by the 2 ends?

The buyer sounds like a bit of d*ck to me then. At the end of the day, its not your fault that they have lost three of them !!!

Its more than the delivery workers jobs worth for a set of 3 alloys...

i'd put money on the reciever being a dodgy b*****d..

looks like piss poor packaging to me tbh...

but no excuse for non-delivery. If they became seperated, the delivery company could have put a bit of effort in and re-attached them.

There was a reel of parcel tape on there + duct tape and the end boxes supported the entire weight of the parcel... how can that possibly mean the packaging is poor! I know it looks tatty in the pic but believe me it was secure as anything! and yes I paid for insurance luckily...

Thing was I received them like that via UPS about a month before then from somewhere else packaged exactly the same!!

I wouldn't worry about them being in separate boxes. You've said that they were secure together (at least support the full weight by them selfs). If there is any dispute about the packaging, it HAS TO be raised at the point of payment. Once that has happened it the company's responsiblility to ensure delivery + safety of parcel.

Using a full roll of any tape is not going to look brill, so again don't worry if people say it looks crap.

If Paypal are investigating, from what you have said, they will have to wait for the UPS investigation. This should indicate what the receiver actually received. If interparcel kick up a s**t about the insurance, just come back at them stating that they had received the parcels in that condition. If thats a problem, then they should have raised it then.

We use various parcel companies at work. If they have any problems, they MUST not take the package. Taking it proves that they accept it in it's current condition.

I think your going to have to play this one out.....

Ok, point to raise and consider (should be able to be checked by UPS) When the parcel was delivered to buyer, he would have had to sign for it. He was expecting 4 wheels. There is no way 4 wheels could have been in 1 box, so why did the guy sign for 1 box, when he was expecting 4 wheels?

I would not have accepted it myself, and would have sent it back via the driver that tried to deliver it.

Yeah was thinking the same thing. Once he signs for it then he has confirmed that he has checked the package and is happy with the contents and condition of them. Delivery drivers will happily wait a few minutes while you unpack something to make sure it's in good condition, saves them grief in the long run.

Also, if the packaging is supposedly poor then UPS shouldn't of accepted them in the first place, so i would say you're covered.

if he does a claim back through paypal, i think they will still take the money out of your paypal account. they will probably even persue it from you in the future.

I've heard cases of Paypal just taking the money back based on one complaint with no supporting evidence, so you may have to fight for it.

download the money from ur paypal account to your bank account or spend it quickly on something then they cant get at it...

i had them hold 150 quid of mine for some reason, i had to answer s**t loads a questions. i got it back eventually but wat a bunch of t-wats

UPS have and always will suck... My mrs works for Parcel Force, they are the largest and "best" couriers in brittain, They won countless awards last year for quality of service...

Explain to Paypal the situation, etc... Should be fine TBH... It sounds to me like the buyer is trying to pull something on you... Always best to package large stuff seperatly tho...

i hope u took out insurance? i always do regardless of the value of the item being couried, this is because i overinsure items for this eventuality. also if they lost my "old" alloys the would suddenly become brand "new" alloys..... i didnt send them in that cond etc

Apparently the buyers girlfiend/wife signed for it, and upon signing for it then realised it was meant to be 4 wheels. She ran after the van, the guy stopped and let her look inside the back and assured he only had that 1 parcel... but she didn't realise until after she had signed for it.

I withdrew the money as soon as it was in my paypal account and it has long since been spent getting new tyres and maintenance on the car!

The buyers fault for not checking before signing. Also UPS shouldn't have lost parcels and can confirm what was delivered. You did you're bit so you should be fine man. esp with insurance on the items

lol, the amount of stuff that you lot have lost that belongs to me is a joke. UPS all the way - the can tell what was delivered, when etc. shouldn't be too hard to track down where things have gone pear shaped and if the buyer's pulling a fast one.

Its a free service offered by royal mail...
